That's exactly how I feel about downtown Portland. In 2020, after the riots finally ended, a then sitting councilwoman pushed her agenda to defund the police and the very blue mayor supported it. There have been a lot of businesses close, REI was one of them, including small businesses, and move away from the downtown/surrounding area. It's not safe during daytime hours, and definitely not when the sun starts going down. Oregon is so blue that there's not enough cold water for all of the showers that would be needed. 🤔

I was stationed at Naval Air Station Alameda back in the late 70’s. Use to go into Oakland all the time. Downtown, walking around. Never had a problem. San Francisco was.a beautiful city then.

Oakland has always been a hell hole. Downtown LA, outskirts of LA,Stockton, many parts of Sacramento, parts of SF. I lived in CA for many years. I left because of the taxes, housing costs, and the dumb overall policies as well as not prosecuting many crimes.
