Road lenses are more neutral and they pop-up gray colors (cracks in road surface, for example); with the Prizm Ruby you will find that green looks greener, and flowers with red-orange-blue-violet are going to look more "intense" This is my personal experience... Prizm grey looks quite good and it will also pop-up colors making them to look a kind of "saturated"

I've been watching your reviews and I just wanna thank you guys. I just bought my first Oakley prizm sunglasses and I'm loving my new Oakley Holston, though I haven't seen alot of reviews about this. Maybe just one. But it kinda fits me so I bought it. Though the one's I bought have prizm grey lens, I was hoping for a prizm black but its not available in our local store. Very informative video! I have two questions. I recently lost a pair of Oakley Stringer sunglasses. I loved the tint on them, especially for making greens pop when I hiking. I think they had plain bronze lenses (tortoiseshell frames). Would these everyday prism lenses with a bronze base have a similar tint? And secondly, is the viewing experience the same between all the bronze base lenses? i.e. would the ruby and 24k perform the exact same for the wearer? Thanks so much!

Hi John! They would most likely have a similar tint with a bit similar or even more contrast boost. The PRIZM Everyday lenses with a bronze base will function similar although there are minor differences in visible light transmission. 3-4% difference is hard to tell when you have the glasses on though. I mean there's two types in the everyday line up grey and bronze? Hi Mick! Thanks for your support! Sapphire and Jade are both great everyday options and they feature a grey base which makes them darker, plus the iridium coating helps reflect sunlight away. I would definitely go for a polarized option because that cuts glare and offers more sun protection.

What lenses in the oakleys range are good for mountain climbing and does that vary with altitude? I understand they should all be UV400, so is the other factor VLT? If so, up to what altitude does oakley recommend cat 3 sunglasses and do they have category 4 sunglasses?

Hey! I will post this question also in the video about Prizm lenses for sport environments, just to cover the bases: I live in an environment that is snowy at least 6 months of the year, with about 2 or 3 of those months getting very bright, whether sunny or cloudy (cloudy days are sometimes the most blinding, with bright white everywhere). Then summer it is totally green and we have 24 hours of light :) I engage in all outdoor sports -- skiing, hiking, biking, rivers, lakes, forest and mountain, etc. So I am trying to choose an ideal lens (or two) for each season -- One sport frame each, one lifestyle frame each. So up to 4 pairs of sunglasses. So far I have tried the Road Jade, Black, Ruby, and Sapphire (Grey and Road are in the mail). I loved the contrast of the Road Jade in mixed conditions, but not the rose base (especially on sunny days). I loved the darkness of the Black on the sunniest days. I found that the Ruby do not work in such a green environment in summer here! While bronze base might provide highest contrast, I simply could not distinguish as well among all the green trees and plants, as bronze seems to boost the green. And the Sapphire are supposedly grey-based, but they looked too rosy to me -- I could not see as well in the Sapphire as in the Black. So... I know there is a "snow sapphire" lens and am wondering whether it's actually meant for snow conditions, and why/how? I think I tend to prefer the most "natural" look, so grey base lenses, but which one of those would give the highest contrast? I am hoping the Sutro S with Prizm Grey will be my go-to. Which lenses would you recommend to me for the 2 main "seasons" in my environment and activities? Thanks for your time!! :)

Hello Valkoshka! We can tell you've done some homework! Based on your preferences I think you're right on point with the Prizm Road Black, especially if neutral tones in your field of view are what you're after. Snow Sapphire has the same VLT as the everyday version but with more rose in the dye to accentuate the textures among snowy conditions. Most Prizm Sport lenses utilize a rose base to for contrast and color enhancement, though it sounds like the Everday options might be more to your liking. While some options lens options are not available with Sutro S frame, you may get the most benefit from the Jade and Sapphire (polarized or non-polarized) for both summer and winter environments. Hey! You may be referencing the Prizm Road Jade lens that appears purple and green depending on the angle at which you're viewing the lens straight on. The Prizm Road and Prizm Sapphire mirrors have similar purple tones as well. The Prizm Road Jade is a great option if you're looking for a cycling or running specific lens that blocks out more light compared to that of the original Road lens. But many people get it for aesthetic or style points as well. There's also a Violet Iridium lens that is overtly purple in appearance but is not included in the Prizm line of lenses. 😎

Thanks for the video... do all the Prizm options have mirrored lenses? I now have to wear really good sunglasses outside all the time, even on cloudy days, and I'd prefer non-mirrored as people do seem a bit put off by the mirrors. (I already have the Flak 2.0 XL, which I love, except... mirrors). Is there a non-mirror option, and if it's a feature of prizm, is there an alternative? Thanks!

Good question! Most Prizm lenses come with a mirror, but not all are heavily reflective or what we consider 'solid' mirrors. The 24K lens, for example, is a solid mirror that hides the eyes of the wearer from an onlooker's perspective. A flash or subtle mirror, by comparison, is more transparent and less reflective. Check out the Prizm Golf, Dark Golf, or Trail for examples of this. That said, the non-Prizm standard grey or bronze does not come with a mirror. You may also benefit from a Photochromic lens, often called Transitions, that darken from a clear state when exposed to UV light. Hope this helps!

Any mirror applied to a lens, whether polarized or not, will reduce the amount of light passing through the lens. If you're particularly sensitive to bright light, or worried about further UV damage to the eye, the mirror can only help (except for low light situations 😜)

A polarized lens will cut glare and offer more protection and is really mainly a no-go if you have to look at instrument panels or your phone on the job (it makes the screen difficult to read). Yes, you can use them for snowboarding. They have 11% visible light transmission which is the same as PRIZM Black but instead of a grey base PRIZM 24K has a bronze base for a maximum contrast boost!

The glare reduction that is prevalent when looking through a polarized lens can make it difficult to identify ice in the road. A non polarized lens should help with this problem.

An easier way to describe one of the negatives (which for me the positives outweigh) is to look at the digital screen of a gas pump while operating it. You simply can’t see the numbers on the screen.

That probably depends on what you mean. All Oakley sunglasses have a PRIZM lens option. If you're ordering a prescription Oakley frame, then you get the option of selecting your preferred PRIZM lens (assuming it comes in Rx) in the custom build process. As for non-Oakley frames with PRIZM, that is not an option that we offer.

Yes, now they are. Oakley used to have a PRIZM Bronze I believe that was Tungsten without the mirror but that has now been discontinued.

I've owned 24k polarized they are pretty dark, they are less contrasty than ruby and tungsten for sure. But overall they look nice.

Hi There! Most Prizm everyday lenses have a low VLT percentage, you may want to try the Prizm Trail or Golf lenses under the Prizm sports options for a much higher VLT %. Hope this helps!

Am I the only person in the universe that looks at the way Oakley glasses are presented IE: Studio product shots, and think after I receive it, this is not at all what I was looking at when I ordered it?? I've had this happen a few times ordering Oakley eyewear. My discussion with Oakley via social media was less than productive on the subject. I like their eyewear but the lack of honesty in presentation is a real sore point. The studio shot is not always the product you are buying just saying..

Hi there! You will want to avoid a polarized lens because it will make the gauges difficult to read. Other than that you are in the clear! Most of the PRIZM everyday lenses are also offered in non-polarized!

Oakley quality was really gone down hill over the years. The lenses scratch and/or peel by looking at them the wrong way. It’s so frustrating because they are comfortable and durable.

Just about-PRIZM was introduced in 2014. Before PRIZM they had many of the similar lens colors available but without the PRIZM contrast which is really what the lenses are all about.
