We’re back at Mammoth shredding the slopes in the finest PRIZM lenses Oakley has to offer. Sunglass Rob and Tyler share their thoughts in our long-term review of PRIZM Rose vs. HI Pink.
Both the PRIZM Rose and HI Pink are designed for low light, even whiteout conditions. Snowy or overcast, these lenses function exceptionally well, providing both color enhancement and clarity. Other low light lenses compensate with a higher VLT, but PRIZM lenses utilize both color tuning and lower VLT to give you unparalleled optical precision on the slopes. Bottom line, PRIZM is hands down the best color tuning technology for tackling the mountains.
If you just wanted one lens to cover as many light levels as possible, the PRIZM Rose is your best bet. The VLT is slightly lower than the HI Pink so sudden shifts in lighting are manageable. But when you want the right tool for the job, get the PRIZM Hi Pink, hands down. The higher VLT and Iridium coating makes this lens the best option for whiteouts.
Don’t let whiteout days ruin your snowboarding trip. Get PRIZM. Choose between Pink and HI Pink and take advantage of those empty slopes this season!

///UPDATE: I also bought the fall line prizm jade, cause i like the iridium look on the cylindrical much better and i realized, that the jade is much darker than the torch! its right between black iridium and the torch! So all i said about torch and jade, just works for the Torch. I guess i could ware the jade also at bright sunny days, but less on whiteout days./// My experience with the different lenses: I have prizm black, torch and hi pink (UPDATE: and jade) ... definitly need all, cause i think i have really light sensitive eyes, especially on white backround (snow / white sky) With my experience now, I think i'd rather have rose than hi pink. (but never testet rose) still have those days, where i am happy too have the hi pink. But i guess rose would do the job, cause torch does the job mostly, and rose lets more light through. --------------------------------- My suggestion... if only enough money for 2 Lenses: - Jade iridium + rose (if you have light sensitive eyes) or - Torch / Sapphire + hi pink (if you dont have that sensitive eyes) ------ if only enough money for 1 Lens: - Jade / Torch / Sapphire (UPDATE: The Jade ist darker than the Torch and should work better on sunny days, but less on whiteout days...i guess that the sapphire is even lighter than the torch) I dont see me opening my eyes with rose on sunny days and dont think anybody can without getting headaches. But didnt wear them on the mountain and dont know how close rose is too torch and jade... --------------------------------------------- Here i explain why, if anybody is interested (Also share my experience with the hi pink): I am sure, if i wouldnt have the money for more than one lens it would be torch, jade or sapphire, cause they really work at all conditions. Not at all great. But they do the job! /// UPDATE: But all are a bit different. Jade darkest. torch middle. and i guess sapphire lightest from those 3. /// I know all 3 have the same LT values... ///UPDATE: ...but Jade and Torch are definitly different, I tested it. Before I had the torch, I had the sapphire at home. didnt like the color, so i send it back. It was really easy seeing through it. So I assume, that it was lighter than the torch. But I couldnt compare them. (pls tell me, if you tested sapphire vs torch vs jade) i will be going skiing in feb. my friend (not living here) has the sapphire. i can than tell you the exact difference of all on the mountain! /// if no clouds i need black iridium (or any other good sunblocking google)...torch works, but i have to close my eyes a little all time...and that gets really exhausting and after a while i sometimes get headaches. With black iridium it is so much more relaxing for my eyes. i use the torch at all other condition mostly. On partly cloudy days, torch is really great and best option and prizm makes the difference! But also use Torch on whiteout days, cause the hi pink can be too translucent sometimes. Whiteout is not always the same. I mean, there doesnt have to be a hole in the clouds for me getting blindet by the sun. I dont mean sunbeams, but the sun can still dazzle, cause everything is so white and you get so much reflection from the invisible sunbeams. Maybe its easier if i compare 2 scenes in the video: - 2:05 I would be dazzled by the sun with hi pink (the rose would be my decision) - 2:46 perfect for hi pink (no doubt i would decide to take the hi pink over the rose) Often I have more those 2:05 whiteout days. Ii bought The hi Pink, cause everybody was complaining, that rose isnt light enough. I guess, rose would be my choise. I Still use them, and when i need them i am the only one in my group who sees anything. So i am happy to have them. But they really would be my 3rd lenses after the experience I made. Torch really works amazingly well on those whiteout days (2:05 days), i guess sapphire even better. Jade probebly not that good. The Prizm works. I wouldnt expect wonders on totaly whiteout days (4:04). But i clearly see more than i see in a bunch of other goggles. I always have to guide my friends (wareing Uvex, Anon, Giro, Poc, Spy) I havent tried smith lumalens and dragons equivalent. All others lose in comparison! But on days like (2:46) you really see the difference between Prizm and other brands or older goggles. For me, Helmet and Goggles are my safety. Its ok to invest a bit more! And dont forget...skiing is expensive...investing in a better google and you have fun every day and not only on the bright ones ;))

UPDATE: Well, Surprisingly even the stubborn friend baught an oakley Line miner (Rose), cause he finally admitted regretting it, not owning a good pair of Goggles. Another got the Line miner Sapphire for christmas. So on Monday will be "testing" all Oakley Lenses. I kinda hope for bad weather to test difference between rose and hi pink :) And how good jade and sapphire work vs Torch (if there is any difference)
@stever83
@stever83 6 жыл бұрын
So i finally tested all prizm lenses. Black iridium - perfect for blue bird, but not needed Saphhire - Lowlight to Bluebird, no problem Jade - Lowlight to Bluebird, no problem Torch - (FUNFACT 1: its totaly different to the Jade and Saphhire. Dont know if its the newer or older Productionline and how strong they changed it. But it doesnt work on bluebird days, but works really good on lowlight days. It is far less rose and FUNFACT 2: it is way better than the rose, cause it is even lighter (i really dont now whats wrong with my torch :D) when you look in the shadow and it is darker when you look towards the sun. Only possible explaination: - the base lens isnt that rose like the rose / jade and sapphire. So it is lighter from the base. But the mirrior starts doing its job, when the sun reflects on it. I know the torch should be like jade and sapphire. but my torch seems to be from another production line. Rose - for me a lens i dont need. But i was surprized how good it still works on partly sunny days. Hi pink - it is so much better on those whiteout days and this season i had a lot whiteout days. The rose and jade were too dark (my torch wasnt) If you buy an airbrake, get one with Hi pink and sapphire or jade. Those 2 lenses cover all! I will need to buy another torch or find a shop that sells them too see if other torch lenses are also like myn. Dont be afraid of the rose look. your brain reacts to it, when wairing and after 1min the snow seems to be white again and not rose / red.

Thanks for the great and detailed review of the lenses. I (like most fans of the Oakley Prizm goggles;-)) am in doubt about the rose/pink. I have the jade, but in those really white out days I experienced last year.... the jade was just not good enough, so I seriously consider the pink for the really white outdays

@@stever83 Hi Steve, I read under the comments of another youtube video that you are from germany (me too). My question: did you have the opportunity to test another variant of the "Torch"? Because as your review above the torch you testet was not as expected, right? Which glass do you use as "everyday" now? I'm about to buy a flight deck, I just don't know exactly which glass. My favorite would be the Sapphire Iridium or the (fairly new on the market) Prizm Sage Gold. It should only be 1 glass at first, because I don't feel like changing it "constantly".
@stever83
@stever83 Жыл бұрын
@@lmc522k7 I will answer you in English so that everyone can read the info. I now prefer to ride with the Jade, cause if the sun brakes through, its just a bit more relaxing for my eyes. And it fitted my Jacket better. I always had the Hi Pink and Black Iridium with me and only used them in extreme situations. Especially the Hi Pink on dark days. When everything was white, it was simply too dazzling. I think there is a nicer lens for that now. I have now sold my Airbrake XL with all the lenses and got the Fall Line L with Jade and a Persimmon lens. So I cover everything for my eye sensitivity. The Persimmon is 7% Darker than the Hi Pink and I hope that I will be able to wear them on whiteoutdays. I would be interested in the design of the Sage Gold. The Rose Gold is not really my colour. The Torch is indicated with 17% light transmission, What would Confirm my Observation, cause Sapphire, Jade and Rose Gold has 13%, Sage Gold has 14%. Dark Grey would be an alternativ to the Black Iridium with 11% for currently 35€! In my opinion, you should simply choose the colour that looks better for you. But there are definitely minimal differences in the all-round lenses. But these are probably smaller than your personal perception would suggest. If you don't care about the colour, I would recommend the Dark grey and Persimmon. You can get the Persimmon glasses cheaper and the Dark Grey lens for 35€ at oakley itself. That's the best price and also the widest range of coverage. If only one colour is required, then the Torch if you are insensitive to light, otherwise one of the others. Or just the more beautiful one.

Nice comparison. I bought Rose Oakley's after trying them on at a Demo Day at Perisher, coincidently a white-out kinda day. They are amazing and allow me to stay on the mountain much longer on those days. I also feel a lot safer because I can see where I'm going! To hear that there are even better Oakley lenses for white-out days in the Hi Pink means I now have a new criteria for my next set of Goggles. Thanks for the video review guys.

Hey SportsRX guys ! Thanks for the many vids and tips. Been using Flight Deck with Sapphire Irridium for a while as my main lens and it served me well even in overcast days. Been thinking of getting a secondary one now to have better coverage so was wondering if you would recommend the High Pink or the Rose as the best pairing with what I already got. I am worried that the high pink would be a problem if it suddently cleared up (don't want to carry 2 lenses on me)... but seeing the Oakley guide for the ranges suggests that Rose is too close to Sapphire Iridium so it might not make sense get that since the difference it could give wouldn't justify buying one more lens ? Would greatly appreciate your thoughts on pairing lenses.

Hi there! I think PRIZM HI Pink or Persimmon would make the most sense because you are getting an additional lens for those specific overcast conditions. Hey Aidan thanks for watching the video and leaving us a comment! If the sun makes an apperance the Hi Pink will not protect your eyes and can ruin your day on the mountain. The Rose will be better if the sun comes out for a little as it only allows 21-28% VLT compared to the 35-40% on the Hi Pink. If you are consistently riding in overcast weather and the sun only comes out once in a while, we recommend getting the Rose as the Blue Sapphire may be too dark for those overcast days.

Hello Andrew! There is a noticeable difference between the Rose and HI-Pink. The Hi-Pink has a higher visible light transmission than the rose since it has a lighter tint lens. So if you want more light coming through the lens, the Hi-Pink would be a great option. This will also give you great contrast for the shadows in the snow. Thanks for reaching out!

You guys were saying that for whiteout conditions, the Prizm Rose is the 2nd best bet - how much further off are the iridium lenses in comparison if you were to only have a 1 lens goggle? I am in between iridium and rose at the moment, ski in BC where we have the full range from whiteout to bluebird and I'll be doing some night skiing too. Will iridium really be much worse compared to rose as a single lens goggle in terms of varying conditions?
@sportrxeyewear
@sportrxeyewear Жыл бұрын
HI there! The Iridium lenses work in conjunction with the intensity and color of the base tint to achieve a specific contrast tone, but the main thing you want to consider is VLT or Visible Light Transmission. Oakley recently discontinued with Prizm Rose lens and replaced it with the Prizm Garnet. The VLT for the Garnet is 19% making it a great option for varying light conditions. We have an Oakley Snow Goggle lens guide coming out very soon where we dive deep into the specifics of each lens option. Stay tuned!

I got some sapphire line miner infernos. Do you think I need to add to this with either a rose or high pink? Judging by what you said rose would be the most flexible but is there a lot of overlap with the sapphire or not really? Perhaps I should have gone with infernos in high pink or rose and a separate set of flight deck XMs for normal conditions? Are all line miners capable of adding the inferno modules to - I was thinking rather than buy the lense just get another pair of line miners without the inferno and plug my inferno module in when needed? Are these compatible with the inferno module? www.rxsport.co.uk/products/Oakley-Line-Miner-Ski-Goggles-%252d-Matte-White-%7B47%7D-Prizm-HI-Pink-Iridium.html

Hello! Sapphire is great because it functions well in a variety of conditions. If you get caught in a storm a Rose or HI-Pink lens would be more optimal but Sapphire will still give enough contrast and allow enough light through the lens so you can enjoy yourself. The inferno module is not compatible with another non-inferno line miner. Thanks for reaching out!

Hello Laura! That is correct! Torch will work under most conditions. There are other options like HI-Pink and Rose that are even more optimal for whiteout conditions but do not work as well when the sun comes out. And Black iridium is perfect for blue bird days but isn't the best for whiteout days. PRIZM Torch is the go-to if you want one lens that functions in a variety of conditions. Thanks for reaching out!

I have a pair of prizm jade iridium lenses already. Which one would be better for night skiing at Crotched Mountain in New Hampshrie? Prizm Rose or Prizm HI Pink? Also, do the prescription inserts scratch the inside of the lens? The inside is really fragile
@sportrxeyewear
@sportrxeyewear 6 жыл бұрын
Hey N Gong! For night riding we always recommend using a clear lens because both the Prizm Rose & Hi Pink may be too dark of a lens. If we had to recommend going one then go with the Prizm Hi Pink. It is considered Oakley's lightest lens and is the best option for night riding. The prescription inserts have a 4 point fit system and they sit on the inside rim of the goggle. The insert itself never makes contact with the goggle lens so you don't have to worry about it getting scratched.

Take the rose. otherwise the hi pink is really great and i like, that you dont have the rose effect. i can defenitly confirm that. The Hi Pink is the Lens that has the least coloring for a low light lens. Most lowlights are much more colorfull. That makes it the best nightski lens for me besides a clear lens. You defenitly dont need a clear lens if you own the Pink. Did it in Sölden (Austria) last year.

Hi Stephanie! If it is mostly overcast then PRIZM Rose is a great choice. It is a bit darker than HI Pink or Persimmon but will get you by if the day brightens up a bit. PRIZM Rose is still considered an overcast/cloudy condition lens though! If you want one lens that will work when it is sunny and still get you by when the clouds roll in, PRIZM Jade, Sapphire, or Torch all work great. You will still be able to see in cloudy conditions but it won't be quite as optimal as a low light option. If you have the choice to get two lenses, we would recommend one dedicated to low light and another mid range(jade, torch, sapphire). Oakley also introduced PRIZM Persimmon as a new low light option this season. You can check out our review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIKrgpejgp6DeLs Let us know if you have any other questions!
