I can't believe Howard Marks is recommending leverage and crypto's. Stick with your value orientation Howard; it has stood the test of time. And don't listen to your son....I'm sure you have much more wisdom.

The reality is, in his position where he manages tens of billions of dollars and has an obligation to deliver above average returns for his clients, searching for more risky alternatives is a frontier he has to explore. The more money you have the fewer opportunities you have to achieve higher returns, and since today large cap stocks have more attention on them and are more efficiently priced, they are no longer as attractive as they once were.

What you say as a fiduciary versus when you are not bound by restrictions are stark, just ask Rick Rule. His opinions are as un-biased as ever so don’t underestimate his comments abt crypto (only BTC IMO).

Trading Crypto properly is a lucratively way of making ends meet. Keyword “properly”, meaning using the right risk management skill and avoid greed, the same thing can be said about forex as well.

Why would you ask a value investor if he thinks BTC is having further upside if there's no mathematical models or multiples to get a fair value of the thing . Isn't it called taking a wild guess or speculation? BTC has value if someone is willing to pay for it just like a painting but if BTC can't be physically used it's not a commodity and developed countries will not use it as currency Wich is a fact . So it is unique in it's computer data hashes but tulips unique in DNA structure .Why do I get the feeling history repeats itself just like the tulip Buble ?

You're trying to sound smart but failing. It is used as a currency in el Salvador and you can purchase things with it. All markets function on supply and demand... you have a capped supply and increasing demand. Gold is speculative and has value because of scarcity. Its the greatest innovation in the last 10 years and will continue for years to come. Every stock is a bubble, everything pops, rinse repeat.. until the market cap is so high that volatility decreases.

Fra Liv - Great point. I think Cryptos are just an extension of the Nasdaq (not Digital Gold as advertised). I’d say at this point the most defensive portfolio is probably some combo of cash, stocks, and gold.
