I remember when they went to the states and Noel was like "why is every American band banging on about pain hurt and killing yourself. We just rocked up, plugged in got wasted and sung about rock an roll"...after they lost the drummer they were never the same. Tony's groove was epic

Wow, you can really notice the difference Bonehead made to the overall sound, holy shit. The Gem versions have him just kinda casually strumming the chords, while here you can see Bonehead relentlessly attacking the rhythm part which totally changes the dynamic of the song. Also, Tony is mega here and perfect, this is all just sooooo good lol

Fully agree. I saw them in Boston during the same tour (a few days before or after this show I guess),and while I saw Oasis again afterwards, that first tour was when they were at their peak. A big part of it was because they played like a band. And yes, Bonehead, Tony and Guigsy were all fantastic live - not just Liam and Noel.
Attitude...check, Volume...check, top tune...check.

I saw them play Columbia at the old Sleep Inn / Hotel Arena in Amsterdam in 1994. Amazing. In a small downstairs room with about 200 visitors. On some Oasis fan sites this performance is mistakenly placed at the Amsterdam Arena, with 45.000 spectators. Very funny because that new Ajax stadium was only ready in 1996...

The funny thing is that Columbia was a jam that the entire band wrote before Noel joined, and Noel contributed (or stole) some parts for the song and then took full credit for it when in reality the whole band should've been credited.
@KyTaundry Жыл бұрын
According to Tony McCarrol's book (which I've recently re-read and totally recommend to any Oasis fan!), the verse lyrics came from Liam, the chorus came from Chris Griffith's of Liverpool band The Real People, who's studio Oasis were using to record their first demo cassette. They owe a fuckin lot to that band. Noel ripped them off blind.

Apparently its because when Noel started writing/recording WTSMG, he was moving in a more somber and intricate direction with the tunes as opposed to the straight forward onslaught of the first album, and didn't think Tony had the chops to do what he wanted. Tbf Tony was the perfect drummer for Def Maybe, but in all reality wouldn't be able to drum the new songs Noel was writing. Since Noel was the only song writer and main creative force of the band at that point, it was his call. It sucks but it is what it is. Tony was a mega drummer for those early tunes and this video proves it!
