I love your base! There's potentially still some free power in your system. Since it's not hooked onto your main grid, it isn't really necessary because you made it just for cooling purposes. However here's the math saying you could run 2 more turbines almost on max Wattage. 3 aquatuners each running 10kg super coolant (8.44 DTU/g/K) heating it +14 K produce heat equal to: 3 * 10 kg/s * 8.4 DTU/g/K * 14 K = 3528 kDTU/s One steam Turbine can efficiently eat 2 kg/s of steam (4.2 DTU/g/K) cooling it from 200° to 95° (-105 K). That equals a heating of: 2 kg/s * 4.2 DTU/g/K * 105 K = 882 kDTU/s To efficiently match the heating of the 3 Aquatuners on super coolant you'd need 4 steam turbines.

@riotintheair5 жыл бұрын
Using super-coolant in the AT's you need exactly 1.5 turbines per AT to keep up with them at full blast. Otherwise they will overheat in the long run, or shutdown due to temperature control automation, because heat deletion does not exceed the heat transfer so you're piling DTU's into the steam chamber.

When running aquatuner on supercoolant, you need three steam turbines every two aquatuner: in theory they would be perfectly balanced, both in power and heat transfer. In practice, they will run around 185°C and loose around a KJ per cycle, but since you already have 5 steam turbines running at top capacity that shouldn't be an issue.

Your fuel tanks and oxidizer tanks don't have to be right next to your engines. If you build your cargo modules on the bottom you can move your engines and all the piping up 5 or 10 blocks. Those blocks will drastically reduce the amount of steam they are exposed to and reduce the chance or overheating your fuel pipes.

Acconding to the wiki, with supercoolant you need exaclty 3 turbines to delete the heat transferred by 2 aquatuners. The 3:2 ratio is reversed if you use water as coolant, you need only 2 turbines for 3 aquatuners. So water 2:3, supercoolant 3:2.

for the compressed steam room, couldn't you build a modified "magma dropper" system to dump the salt water in from the geyser?
@FrancisJohnYT5 жыл бұрын
Completely forgot about the salt water geyser. There is so much water I forgot about a whole geyser :) I can't think of a simple way to get it into the steam room without exploit of massive risk. The danger is the heat could flash boil the water and the massively compressed steam could escape. Safe ways are Door compressor, petroleum puddle, pitcher pump with bottle emptier.

In a (metaphorical) vacuum, is using a volcano for petroleum boiling better than using it for geothermal power via steam turbines?
@Majromax5 жыл бұрын
Yes. A single volcano will put out at most about 1.5kg of magma/second. If converted entirely to power via steam turbines, that will generate about 2.4kW. In contrast, even the smallest of minor volcanoes can run a petroleum boiler, which generates about 10kW of power. The boiler looks even better when you factor in the excess water produced. Additionally, "excess" volcano magma can still be devoted to power generation. It requires a more complicated design, however -- perhaps featuring a magma tank that has multiple tap-offs at different elevations.
