David, 4 years ago there was not a DIY community for Split Flap displays. Nor did the original company from Italy aid in or share any information with us. With this absence of in-depth knowledge, we had to start from scratch. The core guiding principle was the distinct noise and a carousel of flaps.

After reading about your company in Popular Mechanics, I really wanted to watch your video and was very interested in what you do, but the incessant and very LOUD clacking noise with the 'music' in this video, was just too much. I had to mute the audio, and eventually, after not hearing the people speaking, just closed the video.
