Hi Nancy - I grew up in the southern part of India and knew about pretty much everything you show ... but many of them I've never seen, just heard or read about them. Your videos reminded me of an old (late 1960s) documentary by the great Louis Malle (called "Phantom India") in which one very long segment was about then-Madras. Your marathon video+narrative and Selwyn's commentary easily surpasses even Malle's attempt! Thanks very much for sharing. You should try your hand at doc/film-making if you are not already into it!

the temple was damaged by english and muslims invaders. not by the wether or any thing else. they could not damage the wole thing bcz of the stone is soo strong to distroy so could able to do it by damaging faces and tiny and sencitive part of the scrulptures.

I checked the video and, while not very clear, there is a little building with the sign "4th Stage" which seems to bring something up on google maps, so it may mean something to locals. My notes indicate the tree should be on the way to Mysore from the village of Bannur. Best of Luck :)

when the guide was talking about names.....I think basically using western(Roman) alphabet is stupid in itself for Indian names. If "Cauvery" was transformed into "Kaveri", it didn't make any difference. Just stick with the spelling in Tamil or Kannada.
