These OAX recaps I think have been really helpful for those who are new to original art collecting! I love how more personal and relaxed OAX is and definitely makes me want to go sometime just to hang out and chat with people. As someone who transitioned from collecting comics to original art over the past year and a half, I think your assessment of collecting original art is 100% spot on! Wish I would have known this to start with. Crazy how fast stuff sells and how you really have to work directly with the art reps quickly if there's something you really want. I personally really enjoy collecting the modern art because I'm way more familiar with the artists and have a deeper connection to the pieces. And it can be WAY cheaper haha! Thanks for the OAX recap. I always like seeing the original work and hear from the artists. It's never a BAD IDEA to go to conventions or showings like this. I've picked up a number of pieces over the years from George Pratt and David Mack to go along with my other dark art original art collection. The original works I have in my art studio inspire my own creations. There is just something to seeing how an artist lays down ink or paint in person compared to the print or video.

Thanks for putting a spotlight on marvel card art! I know it was a gateway to comics for collectors of a certain vintage like myself. But it never really got the love till recently in the past 5 years or so. I agree its in the rise, here’s to hoping it stays a collectors hobby and doesnt end up turning into a speculation casino like pokemon or sports cards.

Great point on the 'song and dance' between buyers and sellers of OA; like you said, with more common/liquid items, people may nickel and dime their way around, but with OA, you have to be ready as soon as it comes up for sale.

I definitely don't think it's a BAD IDEA to pick up Jusko OA if it's out there and you're able to. Those were some of the most iconic images of those characters from such a fun time in comics.

I am so glad I was able to afford some cool OA back in the early 2000s...there is however plenty of nice OA that is affordable and I recommend looking closer!

I would love to buy OA but price is just suck a barrier to entry. I know there are lower value pieces available but unlike comics where I can buy a 0.5 AF15 and feel part of the club but with OA you either own it or you don’t. Maybe limited copies of OA could be interesting but would this devalue the original artwork…bit like facsimile copies of comics

What I discovered when left comic collecting almost a year ago and jumped into OA is that even though you're acquiring a 1 of 1 piece of art, that art makes you part of a club with those who own art that has the same character(s), or is drawn or inked by the same people, or is from the same issue if it's from a published comic book.

OA collectors live in a different universe of expendable income. Its one of the reasons prices are so manipulated in the art market in general (not marvel specific). I'll stick to $10 prints that look just fine behind glass.

It's hard to appreciate any kind of art sometimes without seeing it first hand, but looking at some of the images shown, they aren't all that great. I'll confess up front that I'm putting the emotion of comic books aside and just looking at those works, as art. As for the cards, it seems like it's another collectible that will likely end in a bad way. On the other hand seeing the actual comic pages themselves is a different story. They seem like an honest part of comic book history and can be appreciated and valued at that level.

People in the original comic art community can give 2 💩's about the art. All what they care about is it as a investment. Oh also I know that i will have people that do THIS SAME THING say ohhhhhhhhh your wrong. Meanwhile nothing is on their walls and it's all packed away for the artists to pass sadly. Or for something else to raise it's value.
