For those thinking this ship is based on the Edmund Fitzgerald; listen up. This style of ship layout was common for Great Lake Freighters during the time period. A major difference is that the Edmund Fitzgerald had a chart room attached to the back of the pilothouse so the crew could access charts without leaving the pilothouse. This ship doesn't. And yes, John A. France was a REAL Great Lakes ship, built in 1960
