Discussing Obama, I have to laugh. I live in IL. Downstate IL., not Chitcago. (Believe me, no one loves that place anymore). Here is what all of us south of I-80 saw when Barack was coming up. He was elected to our legislature and did NOTHING while there. IMMEDIATELY, he started running for Senator on the National level. The liberal Democrats saw him as the be all end all because he was black and he was articulate (when he had a teleprompter in front of him). So, he won the senate, went to DC, did absolutely NOTHING there for the state of IL and started running for President. He was groomed by the liberal democrats to be "the greatest President of all time". Meanwhile, all of us downstaters KNEW he was just a BS'er from the south side who frequented gay bars. He was hand picked by whoever "for great things" but he was a troublemaking "community organizer" that stood on street corners calling everyone racists. He and his wife were lawyers and they gave up their law licenses before running for office. Lawyers don't do that UNLESS someone has something on them that is shady. Obama is a hack and a bad one at that. His wife, is even worse. THAT is what we think of him here in downstate IL.

I love hearing stories like that - I’m Canadian, we too have radically left leaning mainstream media, and my sister and father ABHOR Trump, but will never engage in thoughtful debate when I present facts, they don’t want to hear it. My move to the right came because I became more and more disillusioned with the left (both in the US and Canada) and started seeing just how vile and corrupt they had become, so by default I just thought I would do my own research regarding Trump, read and absorb non partisan information and actually listen to HIM and not what is claimed ABOUT him. The choice was fairly simple after that, when you find out so much of what is said about him is propaganda, and what he truly stands for, moreover WHO he stands for. My sister and father still think the news ‘can’t lie’ and all they do is regurgitate the sensationalized headlines, all of which have been debunked, like the ‘very fine people’ hoax, and the ‘Russia Russia Russia’ hoax. It feels affirming to know that I’m not alone in that transition.

@@whitway12 I'm lucky, I can talk to my family who are enlightened pro-Trump conservatives in Canada. But I'm in Montreal and for eight years even the separatist French-language media here have just been publishing uncritical verbatim translations, basically, of American MSM (and English-language Canadian state-funded media) propaganda, against Republicans generally and Trump specifically. I don't bother going to dinner with friends any more, I'm tired of losing respect for unquestioning useful idiots. However, as an old friend always said, Keep the faith.

I have never been a particular Trump fan, but I have been someone who stands up when someone is being smeared and treated unjustly.... happened to my family when I was young... I found that while he drove me so nuts, I couldn't watch his speeches...but rooted for him as attacks came from every angle. I recognized what was happening from the beginning of the Russia Russia business. I felt like I had a split personality. Back in 2015 he came to Atlanta and spoke out in Gwinnett county. On the news that evening there was an elderly black man who attended the speech... the guy went on and on for several minutes praising Trump. I told my husband on October 11 or so of 2015 that based on that ...I felt Trump would go all the way...and I begged him not to vote for him during the primary. The thing is... I have now voted for him three times! I wish he was more precise with his language... since it is important to communicate clearly and not open yourself up to interpretation that may be inconsistent with your intent (particularly on the world stage).... but he is who he is and he did a pretty good job the first time.
