So after looking at the comments and figuring out what is true and what is false, basically Obama care lowers health insurance for some people but raises it for the majority + protection from stuff I dont understand because I live in the UK where I pay the government in tax and walk in when something has gone wrong without fussing about insurance.

If I earn 55 000 USD yearly, I will tax around 29% of those. Which means that I will have 39 000 USD yearly, which is 3250 USD monthly. that's what the intention of the plan is, what is REALLY happening is that the coverage is very low quality (40 percent co-pays and $10,000 Deductibles) and the premiums are insanely expensive (upwards of 200 dollars a month for a healthy 21 year old) While people who already have coverage are having their plans discontinued and replaced with poor coverage at a high cost. This makes it very unattractive for me to purchase health insurance since I've never been covered, but since I can afford it the government will not front ANY of the bill. I can opt out entirely for 250 dollars a year, which is literally 10 times cheaper than purchasing this horrible, expensive, low-quality insurance. That is my understanding of the ACA as of Jan 2014

The only reason why you would mention losing your health care insurance is if you felt that the ACA (affordable care act) is to blame for that loss; however, anyone who understands how the ACA works knows that ACA doesn’t require that you drop your healthcare insurance if you‘re already insured! So chances are that IF this situation really happened and your insurance coverage really was dropped, then there was another reason for its termination (A decision made by your employer, the healthcare insurance company themselves, etc.). But instead of researching that or acknowledgingvthe real reason, you’ve decided to purposely redirect the blame to the ACA (or as the Republicans like to call it “Obama care“) - probably to support your political views. In other words, you tried “it” but most of us are not stupid enough to fall for it.

Obamacare explained simply...Let me tell ya about Obamacare from someone who is being victimized by it. I was forced to buy insurance on the federal exchange. My monthly premium is $400 and my deductible is $5,500 a year. Its doesn't pay for anything until I reach the deductible! I cannot afford to see my doctor because of the monthly premium. According to the government I can afford insurance so I'm not getting a subsidy. Now the kicker, part of my monthly premium is subsidizing someone else's insurance so they can afford to see their doctor and I'm left out in the cold. Thats not only wrong, its immoral! My only choice as of right now is to cancel my insurance plan so I can afford to see my doctor, a doctor's visit costs $110. I can see my doctor almost 4 times for the cost of ONE monthly premium payment...There is your Obamacare and I'm not the only one in this situation either. Its time for it to be repealed!!!
@rx7here

@rx7here
@rx7here 9 жыл бұрын
Misato Katsuragi sure i am always open to learn. Why is obamacare the cause for increase of the deductibles? It goes without saying that one should keep those conditions in mind when choosing the insurance plan.
@MisatoK29
@MisatoK29 9 жыл бұрын
rx7here Forgetting all the trouble with the healtcare.gov website, and that you have to give out all your information and still might not get coverage, I have look at the obamacare plans on that website. the gold, silver, all of them. The deductibles for all the ones I seen that would give me the coverage that was even close to what I had before, would have been at least $7,000 for the cheapest of those plans that I seen. Before my insurance got cancelled, which Obama lied about saying you could keep your insurance if you liked it, and don't tell me he didn't know this would cause a lot of insurance policy cancellations, my deductible was $2,500. Now to get the same coverage, I would have to pay almost three times that before insurance starts covering anything. The whole Affordable Healthcare Act is an oxy-moron! Deductibles are higher, premiums are higher, coverage is less, employers would rather fire you or cut your hours to part time instead of paying the individual mandates. What the hell has been AFFORDABLE about the Affordable Healthcare Act? That's the question Obamacare supporters can never seem to answer me. If you can tell me, you'll be the first.

The problem from both ends. health insurance in Canada and most of Europe you have long waits, governments are terrible at taking care of any thing in a timely manner. Here in the US the insurance company will pay any thing the hospital will ask, because they get a cut, and we the people pay high premiums. Example a bag of saline cost about 7-8 bucks hospital will charge 100+ and the insurance is like ok then. why? The insurance comp makes a % of the total, they cant work for free. The % of 10 for a bag of saline or 100 is a lot. I have seen setups where the insurance comp and hospital are the same and premiums are much lower, not always. Other setups where the insurance comp actually asks hospitals for bids and will send you to the cheapest place, can be good and bad. A lot of unhappy people and very rich insurance comp's and hospitals in the US, we do have great care, if you can afford it.

So explain why should I buy healthcare when I get LESS coverage (higher deductibles and higher coinsurance)? Yes I can get health insurance for as low as $89 a month but the deductibles are around $6,000!!! That's more than 25% of my yearly gross income. Keep in mind that I have to pay THAT first, BEFORE Obamacare kicks in. Ok let's say I sold my car and manage to pay the deductible. There is 20-40% coinsurance. Which means that after I spent $6,000, I'll have to pay 20-40% of what left of the bill. So say I was with my friend and we got ourselves in a severe car wreck and I was severely injured. *1 weeks of intensive care *2-4 weeks of recovery *4-6 months of physical therapy That's alone cost $200,000 to $500,000 in hospital bills - and I have to pay at least 20% of that. That's more than 2 years of of my income!

I am sure what Obama wanted to do was very honorable, but he had America against him. You folks just don't seem to get that health insurance means solidarity. In Belgium everybody that works pays taxes to the government to ensure healthcare for all. Even if you are not sick, you pay. But if you get sick and are sick and your are properly enrolled in the " ziekenkas " you will be properly taken care off in a hospital or a doctors office. Only 10% of our population is not insured. And even then, if you aren"t, in a hospital, with your gut hanging out of your belly, they will help you. If you can't pay, the social system will. Really for a country with so many rich people, you have a very pore grade on humanity.

The federal budget, doesnt it need to make some budget cuts to start removing some debt? It would be ideal if that budget was taken from the military because they're obviously overspending on that side.

It would be nice if a short video about the Affordable Care Act listed BOTH Pros, AND Cons. Almost every video is either: "Everything is good; Look at these benefits!", or, "This is a horrible bill: Stop it immediately!". Consider both sides of the argument, and then I'll consider agreeing. Even Fifth grade teachers tell you that a valid persuasive argument should consider both sides, and justify why their decision is correct.

$90/mo. is a lot less than the payment you would be expected to make if you get sick or hurt and need emergency care or surgery. That bill could be $50k or more. At $90/mo you'll pay that off in 10 yrs or so and you still won't have health insurance or be able to afford care when you need it. You deserve affordable health care and at a fair cost. Every American does. And you can have that with Obamacare.

In the UK, the NHS has its flaws and maybe that's the understatement of the century, but at least we don't have to worry about being able to afford healthcare. Some of us are lucky to have private healthcare, usually through employment. This however only really serves to jump queues. I don't believe an operation done on the NHS or privately is any different and it usually involvs the same specialist, as most surgeons and consultants wortk in both state and private sectors. I feel sorry for Americans who have to contend with their seemingly complex healthcare solutions, in order to manage health conditions, or even simply have children (corerct me if I'm wrong) I don't think state healthcare is about socialism, but I think having it is a positive reflection of one's society. I'm a conservative by the way........ Looking for intelligent comments here, not flames ;)
@alexkaitlinthomas

Totally agree. I'm a conservative too but much prefer the NHS system to what America have. I think many Americans are me, me, me and have no concept of social responsibility and social benefit. It find it bonkers that such a rich country does not have a universal health system.

Obama care is a start to get a new modern system. In France, all payments are included in tax but its like a complete forfait. No cancelled, delete care by doctor. Our National Security pay back but not all pills, preventive care neither doesn't. For thats, we have kinds of private insurance not obligations called mutuelles like yours private insurances. With a simply base of coverage (public), you can complete with a complementary coverage (private insurance).

Friend the american life style is way better than the european, in terms of jobs, entertainment but most importantly LOWER TAXES, AND THE ABILITY OF STARTING A BUSINESS, good luck trying to start a business in socialist europe, in america is really easy, because of more capitalism and less regulation, Yeah it has more debt, but also more population, but it's economy is fife times bigger than any european country, I don't really care about health care, because I PREFER TO PAY FOR MY HEALTH CARE, RATHER THAN A BUROCRAT GIVING ME IT, And both europe and America are bankrupt because of all their socialialist welfare programs, and in this next crisis both are going to collapse

All these new benefits, but who pays? The government. Who is the government? We the people. Higher taxes folks. I'm a 60 year old male, and my plan costs $1600 /month. It includes womens care, birth control and a host of things I cannot use. So not only do my taxes go up, but my premium has gone up $1200 in 3 years, and care I need is more restrictive.

Now it has been explained and reading the comments I can understand why Americans hated Obamacare. Sorry guys I thought it was free healthcare service and didn't understand why people were complaining about it. Can see why now. Honestly I don't understand why America just doesn't have free healthcare or at least universal health care. Even poor countries do have at least one off these and to me healthcare should never come with a price. It is the government's obligation to make sure it's citizens have these services. You don't pay for education so why healthcare.

I think many remain opposed or confused about this Act because they truly don't understand it or "refuse" to understand its intent and purpose. Folks generally fear what they don't understand... perhaps that's part of the reason for the chaos surrounding Obamacare.

Okay, so why the hell am I forced to pay for health insurance? I don't have a car... so I don't pay for car insurance. And I'm thinking about quitting my job so I can suck on the tits of the America Working class and retire on food stamps, welfare housing, and more... So I wouldn't have to pay for income tax... but I am still forced to pay for health insurance that I don't need or want because I eat healthy and if i get injured I have a savings that will cover most medical costs... should I just give up on eating healthy and go back to those irresistible twinkies and cheddar popcorn? And why the hell are they coming out with this stupid mandate when half the people in this country are living in poverty... I would not be surprised if 25% of Americans were unemployed... including the ~8% that is getting unemployment checks.

You think that only promoting the good things about this will make your opinion stronger, but it just weakens it, because you have nothing to compare the pros to, so you can justify why I SHOULD agree with you. I'm not saying that I like Obamacare, I'm not saying that I'm against it. All I'm saying, is that when you say you're "explaining" something, present all facts, otherwise, you're basically lying to people so they agree with you.

Before ObamaCare, American medical care was free. Insurance, just waived you from malpractice or police involvement, if you sought a non-payer, a foreign service of insurance care for your spouse or family, with services such as AA, Jewish Voice Ministries, the Mustard Seed, or Doctors Without Borders, also the Red Cross or Red Crescent. Thank you, for giving me free insurance, Barack Obama. I wanted the cops out of my family, so I could live in the example of Jesus Christ. In Boston, we call that riding the 'T'. The MBTA, our first municipal service, insured under the Canadian model, for health and transport, our subway system.
