The keyboardist Coen Janssen is classicaly trained and does choir and orchestral arrangements. He also happens to be the main composer for this song. Simone Simons, the singer, wrote the lyrics.

Enjoyed your reaction! One of Epica's most commercial/radio friendly songs. They definitely go way heavier than this and usually do. But they also have some gorgeous ballads and acoustic stuff as well. If you want more music videos I would recommend Abyss of Time and The Skelton Key form their Omega album, Solitary Ground from teh Consign to Oblivion album, and Sirens - of Blood and Water from their Alchemy EP. Later is a collaboration with Charlotte Wessels, ex Delain, and Myrkur, a Danish singer who started as a Black Metal outfit and then moved towards Nordic folk and traditional music. Like Nightwish they are best heard live. Unleashed and Design Your Universe live from Retrospect concert (10th anniversary concert with live orchestra and choir, same one that Sancta Terra was from). For heavier Essence of Silence live from Brussels or their heaviest, Consign to Oblivion live from the Zenith in Paris. For gorgeous ballads Tides of Time, Once Upon a Nightmare from the Omega Alive pandemic show, Rivers from Omega Alive (acapella) or official live one shot from Chile, or Chasing the Dragon live from Retrospect. Please more Epica!

check out their coolest live performance on KZbin. Epica - consign to oblivion (live in zenith) and you will understand that this is generally far from Nightwish. It’s just that these guys are very diverse, they have pop songs like the one you listened to, as well as heavy epic prog masterpieces. Their music contains many genres such as melodic death metal and even black metal. If you compare at the most primitive level (sorry guys) that both groups are with female vocals, then yes, for some it will be the same 😁 you just need to check out more songs 😉

I am going to Brainstorm Festival in Apeldoorn my hometown. I would have loved to see my favourite band Epica besides Eluveitie at the Rock Circus too but most bands i dont like at the line up so decided to not get a ticket, but perhaps i make my mind coming week. Btw Brainstorm is an indoor metal festival too on coming week Friday and Saturday. Can't wait to rock there! I hope you have fun with Epica on Sunday next weekend! 🤘🏻

EPICA took their name from the 2003 Kamelot album. When the band formed in 2002, they were known as Sahara Dust. Guitarist, and harsh vocalist, Mark Jansen, founded the band after leaving his former band, After Forever, which he also co-founded. AF was the first band Floor joined at age 16. Mark's harsh vocals appear in a lot of their songs. Some of their heavier songs: Consign To Oblivion, live at the Zenith in Paris. Design Your Universe, from the same Retrospect concert as Sancta Terra. And Universal Death Squad (lyric video).

I have not taken a peek at the comments yet but just in case nobody else has mentioned it, when Epica first started, Simone was something like nineteen years old. There is a collection of clips from the studio while the band was recording their album 'We Will Take You With Us'. My favorite song from that collection is 'Cry For The Moon'. Amanda Somerville was Simone's Vocal Coach at the time and was present in the studio and did some backing vocals at least for that track, if not for a few more for that album. Amanda was just BEAMING, she was SO proud of Simone! I think Simone also covered 'Memories' during that same recording session, which is the main song from the stage play 'Cats' (if that cover is not on the album, it SHOULD have been)! :)

I belive there are very few bands out there that have such a wide spectrum of music when it comes to agressivness , Epica can get way harder than nightwish , and softer to , the two songs you had were more on the softer side , also while the older songs are more operatic from Simones side , the newer songs are more mixed up , essence of silence , consign to oblivion or kingdom of heaven part 1 ,would be some of the hardest songs , retrospect (10th anniversary show) and the omega alive (covid livestream ) are some of the coolest live stuff out there in my opinion

Epica is more heavy then Nighwish, this song is a ballad, you should try react to Consign to oblivion live at Zenith, you need to see Epica live, its awesome!! Actually Floor and Simone went to same classical scholl back in the days, they even shared room, and have been best friends ever since!! O love both Nightwish and Epica, both are among my favorite bands, i started with Nightwish in 2004 and got to Epica later on, today i cant pick a favorite band beteen these 2, they are both amazing bands, and especially live..

I don't remember ( I have the original DVD special edition from 2 meter sessies ) but I think Mark makes a reference to this on the 2 meter sessies DVD...

So you should move on to ‘Unleashed’ live at retrospect 10year anniversary concert ,’Rivers’Ft Apocalyptica live from the AFAS live and ‘Consign to Oblivion’ Live from Paris to get the full range of this amazing band. Good as it is Storm of Sorrow is the closest to commercial output that Epica get.

There are just SO MANY different connections between those two ladies, it would be impossible not to mention Floor a few times while talking about Simone. To be fair, Sancta Terre get’s chosen because of Floor, which is mildly irritating but it is what it is. Storm the Sorrow is 9 years old and was a single and has 24 million views so I think it get’s chosen because it is their most viewed on KZbin. I like it, but there is so much better stuff to explore with Epica. I am sure they will get there eventually!

Pop-rock bands don't have growls. This song is beautiful in multiple ways, whether it's the melody or lyrics or vocals... The only thing I miss here is Simone's gorgeous operatic soprano.

I had to stop for just second and realize you're speaking of 2 Celsius, as we American blokes use Fahrenheit. 2C is far different than 2F, as 32F = 0C.
