This is a true beard story: Hans Steininger, the mayor of Braunau am Inn, Austria, had a beard that was four feet long. When he ran, he bundled the beard in a ball and carried it with his hands. When a fire broke out in his town his plan was to help as many people as possible, but instead, he forgot to bundle up his beard first, and so he tripped on it, fell down the stairs, broke his neck and died.
