He was a bright light among some of the more shady and will always be remembered that way.

Poor Garret Fitzgerald, he was a great man, and had a good government. It was my most favourite government, as a Fine Gael supporter I would say Garret was my most favourite taioseachs of all time.

It was funny seeing Martin Sheen in this video, because I couldn't help noticing a likeness between Garret and Jed Bartlet, the US President played by Martin Sheen in the West Wing. Extremely intelligent, liberal, quirky economists with nothing but good intentions.

Garrett was the only political leader in Europe to get the better of Thatcher who said her greatest regret was 'signing the Anglo Irish Agreement'. She said no to everything he asked for, so he went away, changed all the labels on the things he wanted and when he presented them to her again, she said yes!

He said much and had much to say! He was personable, possessed of endless energy and produced a huge volume of very good quality comment. His reflective capacities improved with age. RIP.

A true republican and a real patriot, there's Collins and there is Garret, and then there's the rest.

We Irish people think / believe that we are the " salt of the earth " and that's well founded - I remember when in Australia 30 yrs ago a woman referring to Ireland as God's own country. Garret was a decent / great man of Ireland that few Politicians in the past years can compare to. Irishness is not Greed or Oneupmanship - But Decency and Giving- Hardy Hoors like Leinster today but not Saints - nopun intented
