Went on Oblivion for the first time in about 20 years yesterday, and while it was as good as I remember, those three seconds staring down into the abyss really built the tension! Now it's just a measly split second pause.

Apparently they had to get rid of the sound effects a few years ago, and also when I rode on it a few days ago the dry ice effect wasn't there either.

It’s because dry ice is very expensive to use so they used regular water instead

Apparently with the ride being quite tall, the sound effects were carrying too far, prompting complaints from locals, so they had to remove them. Can confirm when I went on it three times yesterday, the smoke effect is back, although less intense than it looked back in '98.
