OBLIVION SONG - ft. Robert Kirkman, Lorenzo De Felici, Annalisa Leoni & Sean Mackiewicz

I came to this book quite late - as I type this, the 24th issue has just been released. A friend on mine highly recommended Oblivion Song to me, so I bought the first five issues off Ebay, read those, and then bought fifteen more over the course of the next week. I'm definitely a fan of the individual comics and not the collected trade paperbacks, so buying a series is always a bit more expensive than the collected editions, but I think it's worth paying extra to have an actual comic in your hands! Oblivion Song is, without a doubt, one of the best-written books on the market today, and De Felici's art is also excellent. One small gripe I do have is with the dialogue-free sequences. These I feel are quite difficult to follow, given De Felici's quite imprecise style. Similar to that of James Harren in Rumble, it's quite organic, which is super well-suited to the overall theme of the book, but doesn't lend itself to fast-paced, word-free sequences in my opinion, especially when you consider they're likely to feature an out-of-this-world monster that we've never encountered before. Anyway, I'm up to issue 19 now, and can't wait for payday when I'll be ordering the next six in the series. Highly recommended comic that I hope will run and run...and run. x
