I hate how they break the music. Especially when you play it heavily modded, and you're walking through this gorgeous fantasy land with enormous trees and beautiful stringed music and all of a sudden you hear that BUM BUM BUM BUM of the battle theme and oh look it's another mudcrab for you to slay in one strike..

Jeejee I agree. I would be ok with the music keeping the same theme, but adding aggressive string parts. I think brass and bass is too intrusive. Music can be aggressive without these things.

While Jeremy Soule was working on the oblivion soundtrack, he almost died in a car crash. He said that the near death experience he had greatly influenced the way me he made the oblivion ost, and that he wanted to "comment on the human condition and the beauty of life" I think he did a real good job. I'm glad oblivion was my first RPG and I was still in elementary school when it first came out, the whole game seemed like magic to me. It felt like i was playing a LOTR movie, and honestly despite some of its flaws, oblivion is still most definitely my favorite single player game and RPG of all time.

Best song on the Oblivion OST. This one is just absolutely beautiful. I know a lot of people like to bash this game saying that Cyrodil was uninteresting or too "standard high fantasy" of a setting compared to Morrowind, but i personally never minded this. The lush green forests and beauty of the landscape made it feel "comfortable" to me. It made exploring feel fun as you'd constantly stumble upon all these beautiful views. It's a place I would love to live in, full of cozy towns and inns, especially versus the harsh terrain and weather of skyrim , or the swampy and bizarre landscape of morrowind.
@maxedout4410 жыл бұрын
you said exactly what I had in mind man

Neither Skyrim or Morrowind have a piece of music in them as beautiful as this track right here.
@samlrjq9 жыл бұрын
Heh, I much prefer the rugged, alien landscape of Morrowind myself. I preferred the architechture as well. Granted, the towns could be a bit bigger, but aside from that, cyrodiil is just way too stereotypical for me. Still a good game though, wish I could come back but sometimes the similar dungeons just put me off.

@southernfriedmedia396811 жыл бұрын
maybe the open world soudtrack is more enjoyable, but not much can beat that Nordic chorus at the title screen of skyrim
@cradiIy11 жыл бұрын
And morrowind is better than Oblivion. Don't compare the 2. Skyrim is based on Nordic culture thus the barbarian choir and soothing music in there. Oblivion has heroic esque music because well you're no dragonborn or nerevar demi god you're just a plain old human on a mission to deliver the amulet then you become a hero. Morrowind you just become a full on god yo. All are composed by jeremy soule and have different environments.
@southernfriedmedia396811 жыл бұрын
I guess I just identify more with the Nordic music. I wouldn't doubt that my Scot and Irish blood mixed with German have something to do with that lol
@blastoise11411 жыл бұрын
cradiIy Yea, I see your point, but how can you NOT compare them, Skyrim is a sequel. It's meant to be compared. With that logic, should I not compare Star Wars episode IV and V just because they take place in different places?
@chiffmonkey11 жыл бұрын
blastoise114 But then again it is set thousands of years later. Like comparing Cleopatra to The Social Network. :P That's why there's a far more modern almost industrial feel to Skyrim, but without going as far as the Dwemer went for obvious reasons.

This was the first track that I heard after leaving the sewers, it was definitely the one track that impacted me the most, it truly did encapsulate the magic and adventure this world had to offer
@ghostsade37 жыл бұрын
I think the first for me was King and Country, I almost shat myself with joy the moment I first left the sewers. I had been looking for a high-tier medieval open-world RPG for years, and I randomly picked up Oblivion one day, not really knowing what it was. During the character creation, I had a great feeling that this game was going to be the RPG I hoped for. After having a blast making my character and finally starting the tutorial and being enthralled by Patrick Stewart voicing the Emperor, and not quite knowing what was going on and being delighted by that fact, I left the sewers, saw how far the horizon went as King and Country immediately starts up and I shake my head in disbelief; I knew I had found the medieval fantasy open-world RPG for me! I had BARELY played games with such big maps...I had similarly great experience with Fallout 3 as soon as I bought it, and I knew the same makers of Oblivion had made this and I couldn't leave my room for 2 days straight lol. I overall love Wings of Kynareth more than King and Country, but I think King and Country was the better song for right after leaving the sewers.
@ghostsade37 жыл бұрын
By the way, I didn't know a THING about the Elder Scrolls or the game when I bought it. I loved the cover and had seen it before, but had no idea it was as good as it looked. I was always curious about the almost blank covers the game had with JUST the Daedric letter. I love minimalist design like that. I had no idea what Morrowind was, but I'll agree that I would have loved that just as much if not more had I started with that game. I own it on PC and plan to play it with a few mods soon. I like the idea of the landscape and culture and aesthetic of Morrowind. When I read the plot of the main story, I was so excited because it was ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD. SO Much better than Oblivion's Hell-Demons, Save-the-World quest, which was still fun. I liked the genericness of Cyrodiil in terms of medieval tropes, it helps you get into the world. I always assumed the lore of the game was shitty though. Boy I remember realizing when I was wrong, I can't quite remember the context, but I was pleasantly surprised :). Skyrim disappointed me on release, but I have come to accept and embrace it as a very good game and it improved upon several areas and I now enjoy the whole atmosphere. It is an extremely good game, especially if you had never played TES before, I can imagine the jizz-fest one would have upon playing Skyrim for the first time. Skyrim definitely modernized the game and improved upon several things, but also took some steps back and over-simplified for the sake of a wider audience. I suppose the same is true for Oblivion. Anyway, these games are all amazing and unite us all in their absolutely enthralling capture of our very souls. Peace
@ghostsade37 жыл бұрын
The juxtaposition of the suddenly triumphant, excellent classical music after the sewers and the damp, eerie, frightening, minimalist aura of the dungeon/sewer music quite surprised me pleasantly also, combined with the colorful distant horizon, I instantly knew I was hooked.

Elder Scrolls games draw me in. Unlike other games I get lost in the lands which are in Elder Scrolls games, probably because there is so much content that is not necessary, such as hundreds of readable books... The beautiful music adds to this engrossing feel of immersion and adventure.

That's wonderful! I find that Oblivion has made me develop a few different interests as well. Great comment!

This was the soundtrack to which I became Sheogorath and took his throne, surrounded by my devoted servants. One of the most epic and dramatic moments I ever had in the game!

Great description of Skyrim their, i agree it has vast amounts of land and features but nothing to really grip you in as Oblivion did. Just listening to this music fills my head with memories again and imagining all the characters i created on that game. It was a masterpiece.
