Oblivion just had this incredibly unique and hard to pin down atmosphere that I found fascinating. Where Skyrim was powerful, adventurous and heroic, Oblivion was quaint, and beautiful but with a strange darkness underneath it. There was something just extremely generic about Skyrim and I mean that as a compliment and as a drawback. Skyrim was instantly easy to identify with and provided a strong connection immediately, but I quickly grew tired of it's setting and atmosphere as I had seen it all before. Whereas Oblivion still remains a mystery to me. I've explored nearly everything I can in the game and yet the game still just seems so strange and mysterious to me even to this day. The cozy towns, lush countryside and grand beauty of the cities are all hiding a darkness underneath, filled with horrifying creatures and unknown magic. I really loved that about Oblivion. I don't get why people think Oblivion is the generic one. I think it has easily the best atmosphere of the series.

+Kolbe Howard And the Shivering Isles! That was one fcked up world, and I'll be damned if I didn't like it. I liked leading the adventurers astray. I loved the idea of battling ORDER and perfection (being a chaotic personality). The twisted personalities and creatures were so interesting. The dungeon you could only complete by becoming a drug addict... THAT is how you teach a kid not to do drugs.

wow that was really said, I always knew there was something about skyrim that got boring but could never pin it down, and you hit the nail on the head, it's generic, perfect description thanks

I dont know why but I literally don't remember a lot of soundtracks of Oblivion, simply because they went so hand in hand with the atmosphere of the game. It just felt right and natural walking through the great forest with this calm , tranquilising music in the background.

I can remember.. when I was 5/6 years old, not even going to school, I watched my brother playing this game on his crap PC, like 2 minutes loadingtime when he was entering a house.. I did not understand what this game was about, but I liked it. I can remember, he was going out of a city, and we saw a deer.. and he just killed it with a bow ._. I was so sad.. and he just reloaded the game and was so happy when I saw it again ._.

its not a fucking competition.....but its very true that every elderscrolls game has its own atmosphere created with the music. Morrowinds music was made to fit the swamps and mushroom forrests. Oblivions music was created to fit the colourful citys and forrests. Skyrims music was composed to fit the snowy Mountains and overall darkness of the game

The ambient tunes like this, Wings of Kynareth, Auriel's Ascension, absolutely hands down 100%. The combat music, not so much. When the same "vague menace" music plays regardless of whether you're fighting a rat or a horde of soul-devouring demons, it tends to make for forgettable combat.

I have always loved this song. I used to play this game with my cousins for hours every day. Its funny because this would always play when we were committing burglary in the Imperial City. The funniest part was when the person we would pickpocket woke up, this song would repeat right after killing them! As if nothing happened! haha but it was always funnier with the guards!! Haha good times...

Loved this soundtrack so much that I even listened to it during my WoW gameplay, Vanilla to WotLK. I also remember a friend & I trying this game out when taking a break from WoW and it left us in awe. Sadly; obviously, we were involved in something else at the time or we would have spent a ton of time in Oblivion. This soundtrack never gets old, one of the best I've heard in gaming to date. Great times... Bethesda were huge at the time & WoW was in it's peak. Lately I've returned to TES5; but have thought about making up lost time in TES4, since I quit WoW a long time ago back in '14 (cataclysm started my decline).

Everyone talking about Oblivion and Skyrim, saying how Oblivion is better because it had a magical feel to it that can't be replaced, it's just nostalgia, when the next Elder Scrolls comes out I'll see these comments on Skyrim soundtrack videos. Although, Oblivion was the first RPG I played and there are so many great memories that come along with this music, I went into it with an open mind and played it without tactics or power leveling, it was, and still is a beautiful game.

I played Oblivion the other night after like 3 years of not playing it, it was like visiting an old neighborhood. I didn't even play quests or fight anyone, I just visited all of the towns, landmarks, etc and just reminisced about the events that took place when that world was new to me. I love Skyrim, but it didn't have the same effect on me that Oblivion did.

---In oblivion, I once was falling off a high place and about to die, and I threw a shield below myself and used my mysticism to pull it towards me mid-fall, which halted my fall and saved me in the process.
