My friend, thank you for this. I learned to read before kindergarten because of comic books, Marvel especially. I grew up from the ages 4 to 23 a die-hard Fan of ol' Marvel. At about the time of Kurt Busiek' s historic run on Avengers ending I started to see changes in certain things that made me stop reading their publications. I went to DC and there I remained, until Marvel announced the new Secret Wars series and the rights for the X-Men & Fantastic Four were now with Disney, who now owns Marvel. I haven't read anything yet because I was looking for an entry point to gain that ol' feeling for Marvel. I've tried several of these KZbin channels, and they're all great, but something was missing. I like to have things as far as si-fi/anime/etc. explained in a linear way. The discover of your channel and your playlist has made me cancel my plans of watching the NBA play-offs in a bar and laying in bed geeking out to you talk about things & and characters I've loved most of my life on Earth. Again thank you, and this just my first video and comment on your channel. I have plenty more to watch and can't wait to delve deeper into how view the Marvel Universe.

I hope I didn't disappoint. As far as I see it I'm not very far along on my cosmic journey - I'm still laying the foundation but I've got a great plan (I think) for how to approach this and Marvel has given me a great world to dissect. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not 100% caught up on modern Marvel myself. Secret Wars definitely caught my attention as well but the first Marvel comic I added to a pulls list in close to 20 years was The Ultimates (2016) and I would suggest it as a great jumping off point to adjust to the state of all things Cosmic in the current Marvel Universe. It was a delight to read and as I continue to catch up on Marvel it and The Ultimates 2 has probably been my favorite story arc. These show that Marvel is willing to think big again and not shy away from some of the incredible cosmic creations within their mythos. Glad you found the channel, plenty more content to come.

People can argue that since Oblivion represents nothingness, its superior to all the other cosmic entities. However, Oblivion is only the opposite and rival to Infinity (which represents space), who is the sister of Eternity. So really the opposite of space is empty and that's what Oblivion represents. Just as Eternity and Infinity are aspects of the same being, Death and Oblivion are as well. A lot of people believe that nothingness means void or empty space, before the First Firmament came into existence. In fact, we know now from Knull's origin story that he existed even before the Celestials and lived in the void. However, before there was anything, everything was white - a blank canvas on which Jack Kirby, the One Above All, drew space. Then came Knull, the First Firmament. It's incorrect to say that the First Firmament came into existence from Oblivion's loins. The First Firmament stated he was alone which means there was no other cosmic entity or sentient being he was aware of. It was not until after the birth of the first Multiverse (the second cosmos) after the war that shattered the First Firmament, that the abstract entities simultaneously came into existence - Eternity and Oblivion. Then with each iteration of the multiverse, more abstract entities were created. Galactus, for example was only created after the 6th cosmos and he is considered a sibling. Infinity as well only existed in the 7th iteration of the cosmos. We know this because were shown all the previous embodiments from 1st to 7th in Ultimates 2 #100. Oblivion cannot be the opposite of the One Above All, because the concept of Oblivion can't even exist without the author (One Above All) creating him. True nothingness means there is no sentient being at all and Oblivion is sentient. With each iteration of the multiverse, they improved and hence, Galactus was created as balance to prevent the overpopulation of Celestials which led to the collapse of the multiverse, and hence its destruction - Abraxas. In a way, Abraxas is the multiversal embodiment of destruction and hence, should be an aspect of the multiversal Oblivion. As for Death, she can only exist if life exists as without life, there is no death. However, Eternity, Infinity and Oblivion can exist simultaneously without life since Eternity represents time and Infinity represents space. Then there is Queen of Nevers which represents the abstract entity of possibility from which multiple realities come into play. Of course, in the void of nothingness, there are no possibilities, so she was created later after life was created. There is also the Phoenix Force, which represents the spark that ignited the Big Bang, born from the ashes of each iteration, it is multiversal but has universal aspects and avatars like the other entities. Since the Phoenix Force has the power to burn away any part of the universe, it does have the power to destroy universes, which means it can also destroy Eternity who is made up of universes. The Phoenix Force represents all the energy that ever will be and exists in the entire multiverse. In a way, Phoenix Force is the light that was created in the void of darkness. Then the Living Tribunal exists in a dimension outside of the Multiverse but not the same as the Beyonders.

I did think about him but unlike Oblivion who is a Cosmic Abstract, Amatsu-Mikaboshi is more a part of the Shinto Pantheon. This ties back into the fact that many of the Pantheons have their own creation myths and that each of these beings was given substance and form via the minds of man - not the other way around.

@serenaellis63456 жыл бұрын
I feel like you are portraying Oblivion to be a lot more powerful/important than he really is by placing him as the opposite of TOAA. However, the present cosmology is pretty messy and different than pre Secret Wars, and the thing Galactud said was from The Ultimates if I’m correct, so things may have changed in preparation for Oblivion to have a higher role. Pre Secret Wars, Oblivion, Death, Infinty, and Eternity were seen as equals and siblings. Personally, I believe that Oblivion and Death are the same, just like Infinty and Eternity are the same. I think you’re right about the M-Bodies though. I think that the cosmic compass each have a multiversal version, and the M-bodies are basically the avatars of the entity in that universe. Thats why Death has been killed many times, like in the cancerverse. Great video though, Oblivion is a super cool character and I wish they would do more with him.
@Cosmic.Comics6 жыл бұрын
Oh, yeah this was definitely a puff piece for Oblivion but I underestimated that ppl would see he has no real power. If the TOAA is everything oblivion is nothing. Like all the other cosmic abstracts he represents an idea and nothing more but Oblivion will never get a seat at the table with everybody else b/c he's always outcast and left to interact with the world only through indirect means. I am so looking forward to eventually releasing my video discussing the cosmic abstracts and their place within the marvel hierarchy but it's a video that is going to continue to take awhile to get together. The post Secret-Wars stuff has definitely added a wrench to that and they are continuing to change up the cosmology as the new universe settles in. I think it would be great to see an angered Oblivion who didn't get his chance to rule in the space between the death and rebirth of eternity this past time around. He could argue that without "his time" the scales were tipped too far in favor of eternity/infinity and that reparations must be made. Marvel will never be that cool.

Could someone answer this question for me: As a non-comic book fan who only started to watch channels like this to understand the full stories of the characters in the now seemingly endless comic book movies that are coming out lately I don't understand how true fans can label someone as the most powerful or the oldest? Here is why: A new comic book character can be invented and that character will be the strongest or several different comics can all claim their hero, villain, or cosmic entity is the most powerful or does something beyond godlike. There are several comics that are like old world religions that claim that their cosmic entity created everything and when it seems that Newer comic book stories try to explain the various inconsistencies all they does is create newer stories and greater characters to top the previous ones. A great example is the one above all in marvel who was at the vary top but then when DC and Marvel did their crossover they had twin entity above him??? Or something like that, and then we had the being that was the infinity stones that was above all but alone so it split itself up, and next we had the firmament who is above all, and now we have oblivian who is above all of the above alls!!! My question is: Why do fans try to insist that their is really one being above all in comics when there will be a new story written of a new entity that was the first above all coming out in the next few years?????
@Cosmic.Comics7 жыл бұрын
For some reason I can't see the other reply right now but these are great and legit questions. First, Oblivion isn't that powerful. He can't actively interact with the Marvel Universe and in the end he's nothing... literally nothingness. So he isn't above The One Above All - more in opposition to anything that is. He's an abstract concept and like many other abstracts in Marvel - he has a role within the greater whole. And yes, at any time a new concept can be thrown into the Marvel or DC comics universe that spins everything around and up side down. Personally, I like the authors that draw from existing lore but somebody always wants to try something new. I'm a Marvel/Image fanboy 100% and my knowledge of DC comics is embarrassingly scant. One thing you see in almost any crossover event from DC/Marvel or even within Marvel such as Avengers/X-Men is that the big blowout, guts on the floor battle you were hoping for never happens. One brand is never sacrificed at the foot of another and most of these brand crossovers end in some kind of stalemate where they fight off some other evil that is going to destroy everything. Recurring themes that we see throughout comics are that all powerful beings end up being lonely. In another episode I will probably cover the Mirage, Oblivion's daughter (Oblivion got lonely). The First Firmament ended up creating the Celestials, etc. One thing I haven't touched on in this series but will eventually is that (at least within the Marvel Universe) there is a confusing albeit concrete hierarchy to it all. Take Earth for example - we have multiple pantheons of gods (The Asgardian, The Aztec, The Egyptian, and numerous others). Each Pantheon has its own origin story and has its own lore where the Earth was created and where they came from. But these Pantheons rose from the minds of men through the power that was originally released to Earth by Demiurge, then Atum (sp?) got the power by killing off the Elder Gods which transformed him into Demogorge. Demogorge released the power back to Earth and went to live in the sun. This power - the power of godstuff is where the Earth pantheons came from. This story trumps each of the Pantheon's individual origin stories. So starting at the bottom of the heap we have mortals which includes Earth Races, Alien Races (Skrulls, Kree, Baddoon, etc.), The Eternals, The Deviants, The Inhumans, etc. On the next rung up we have Gods which are the various Pantheons of Earth. Above them we have the Elder Gods which are acknowledged to be more powerful than the Pantheon Gods. Somewhere beside and between The Earth Gods and the Elder Gods we have concepts such as Heaven, Hell, Limbo, Dark Dimensions, The-Many-Angled-Ones, and other various Entities and Splinter Realms. Then we leave Earth behind and have various kinds of beings of differing power levels such as the Elders of the Universe, The Celestials, The Beyonders, The Horde, The Builders, The Watchers, etc. Some of these may be more or less powerful than the various Earth Pantheons. Could Thor kill a Watcher? Probably. But the difference is these are Celestial beings and not tied to Earth and its various religions, hang ups and history. But beings on this level still interact with mortals on a regularish basis. We've seen maybe a couple dozen Elders of the Universe but are told their are thousands (hope I am remembering that right - at any rate a lot of them and this gives authors a lot of leeway to introduce new ones at will). Above that we have the Universe as a whole. This is where the Cosmic Abstracts come in such as Eternity, Infinity, Death, Galactus, Master Order & Lord Chaos (and probably Oblivion). Those I think are most of the big ones. Then there are lesser abstracts such as Love & Hate, In-Betweener, Origin, Destiny, Mirage, and many others. There are also a few other pantheons of sorts within the category such as the Weird Sisters (Beauty, Truth, Charm) and The Seven Friendless (Epoch, Empathy, Eulogy, Expediency, Entropy, Epiphany, and Enmity). Also on this level we have the various cosmic forces such as the Phoenix Force, Dark Force, Cosmic Powers, - Basically the Building Blocks behind any crazy super powerful super powers. Above that we have Nemesis (the infinity gems bit) who is the One Before All (but this needs some examining in light of recent Marvel Events and I should look back into it again). Above that we The Multiverse where we find beings that act across all various multiverses. There are only a limited number of these beings. The Living Tribunal and Anthropomorpho are two of them. Also, the Infinities and Atlez(Atleza?). Above that we have The One Above All who has been referred to several different ways - The Fulcrum, Yahweh, and All-God. Also this being is generally nodded to and recognized as Jack Kirby for the work he did in creating the Marvel Universe. Expect to see a possible shake up in this area after Stan Lee dies as a nod to Stan's contributions. Above that.... maybe some cop out something between above Marvel and DC but I don't know as I haven't read the story and haven't looked into it. Cross over events generally don't interest me but I will admit I probably need to hunt that story down and at least read it. In this series I want to get around to looking at all this but I can generally only approach one or two things at a time. This series is building but like a house - I can only put one nail in or lay one brick at a time. Others are doing their thing but I'm not paying that close of attention b/c this series has such a limited scope - Cosmic Marvel. And at some point I should probably do a video outlining everything I said above. I had to look at pages of notes and draw diagrams just to get this comment put together. Marvel has recognized what a mess their lore is and has recently taken great strides to clean things up and provide some clarity by shaking up the Cosmic Order and answering a number of long held questions (such as where did the Celestials come from - we only learned the answer this past year!). I think the bigger cosmic events laid out in The Ultimates 1 & 2 series over the last year did a great job of tying most of this together while introducing new concepts and changing old ones (such as Galactus now being the Life-Bringer by creating life on planets instead of eating planets). I hope this helps. I'll get there eventually. Thanks for watching! And thanks for the questions! I'm still a small enough channel that I can take the time to answer things like this. Glad that you found me. :) I've had a huge influx of subs over the past month (50+ is HUGE for me) and I thought a big splashy, controversial take on the origins of the Marvel Universe by reminding people that Oblivion exist(ed) when nothing else did was a great reward for that kind of new viewership. I don't chase after the latest movie or trends so this seemed like the right way to go for right now.

One Celestial: what I thought there was a comic where Genesis created the universe- Oblivion: actually, there was some complaints about The Creator being a man from the future....and it was met with heavy criticism. So now we’re doing a retcon that’s so sci-fi and alien that it doesn’t offend anyone in particular.
@Cosmic.Comics6 жыл бұрын
There is a comic where Genesis / Sise-Neg creates the Universe. The problem with that one is that he returns everything back to the way he found it (except maybe booting Shuma-Gorath from Earth-616 and leaving behind a garden with an apple in it - I don't know time travel gets complicated). The story end on one of those, "Is this something new or the way it always was?" notes. I did cover that story at one point but thought the channel needed something with a little bit more modern marvel spin on it after they shook everything up with the latest Secret Wars. Thanks for commenting!
@animefan776 жыл бұрын
I know the ordeal with Sise-Neg/Genesis was a logical mind-screw, but I was just noting that it was initially implied that that particular deity may/may not have been the bible God and then years after the Secret Wars and the introduction of much higher deities led to the creation of a retcon that fitted more with the sci-fi nature of Marvel and one that didn't specifically call out Bible allusions. Because if they would not have gotten away with doing Sise-Neg/Genesis again due to how much stronger religious censorship has gotten since then. And having the Firmament, Oblivion, the Aspirants and the Celestials being vital to the story of the multiverse makes more sense from a higher, alien perspective than just a man who may or may have created the universe, which is much more controversial nowadays.

since OAA is meant to be a representation of marvel staff i feel they were being pretty literal with the name, and since oblivion along with infinity, eternity and death are the cornerstones of time and space it makes sense that he would of made them first. typically when creating anything you start with its foundation. so in regards to your uncertainty it stands to reason that the one above all has power over oblivion

One above all is supposedly Jack Kirby. And Oblivion and Infinity do stand opposed to one another as Oblivion seeks to destroy all that is. So yes, they are counterparts (when represented within the framework of realities/multiverse) but Oblivion is so much more (less?) as he also exist outside of all realities. To him, the multiverse is nothing more than a dream that shall one day pass. Death, Infinity, Eternity, and Oblivion have gone as far as calling each other siblings but the other three still exist with reality/the timestream. When Infinity and Oblivion have their heralds face off, even then the battle takes place (I forget the exact where off the top of my head) it happens outside of the view of the Watchers and other cosmic entities. The only reason why Infinity made it into this space at all is that a portion of herself resided within Quasar when he went to said forgotten above place (possibly the realm of Oblivion). Hope that helps clarify, it gets confusing. I will discuss this in much more deatail once I get around to the Cosmos in Collision story arc. Thanks for the well thought question.

I would say Oblivion is at least equal to TOAA and the TOBA and probably more powerful or greater if what it is saying is true.
@Vanerov4 жыл бұрын
To go deeper into this of why I would say they are at least equals is because before the TOBA, the TOAA represented Existence or Creation and Oblivion represented Nonexistence or The Void, but I would say this is wrong due to logic I have no idea if it works here but hear me out. Nonexistence, Emptiness, Void, or however you wanna call it is most likely before everything, it's basically the paper on where The Writers draw the characters, Oblivion is this Nonexistence in the Marvel Universe, so I would say it's greater in that regard, we have no idea if it can affect the Marvel Universe outside of its domain because we never saw it have the urge to do so, I would assume it believes its too powerful to do so. But Oblivion says that you can't fathom it's true form, therefore my theory is that maybe its true form is the all-powerful supreme being in Marvel, due to the TOAA and TOBA being equal counterparts they are most likely nigh-omnipotent, since an omnipotent being has full authority over everything, and wouldn't have an equal if it did then it wouldn't make any sense I would say.

Just something I was thinking about in terms of the evolution of Eternity.(I am just calling every mutiverse Eternity here.) The fifth Eternity is called the creator of magic, does that mean the concept of magic only came into being in this universe? And then sixth Eternity is the creator of science. So each Mutiverse is reborn with new concepts and Cosmic Entities to represent them, and not just that, new rules/new concepts allow new possibility, I mean creatures like Elder Gods/Planet Pantheon/Humans may not survive in a previous universe, like the very concept they depend on may not exist at all.(Elder Gods may make it to 5th or earlier. But humans could just drop dead or insane, because there are nothing you can understand.) It's just my assumption though. Kinda like a dictatorship broken into a ruling coucile or something? So maybe that's the colored Celestials goal, to evolve the multiverse itself. And that means new concepts and abstracts. Obilivion to First Firemanent is from nothing to something, then it's growng more and more diverse and complicated.

I have to watch this video at least more than twice, but as for now I would understand now Oblivion as the infinite nothingness outside of the multiverse itself? Is that why it is the counterpart of the TOAA or everything outside the mind of Jack Kirby?
@Cosmic.Comics7 жыл бұрын
This question gets hard to answer b/c the original Ultimates go outside of the multiverse and leave to "see what they can find." This was supposedly the furthest "out" anybody had been, stepping outside of known existence. So there might be more out there. Marvel has now left that door open. I think its more so that Oblivion as a concept represents non-existence (as all the Cosmic Entities are nothing more than representations of abstract concepts). In The Mighty Thor (2011) Annual #1 Oblivion states, "Before creation was... I was. Where creation ends... I wait. I am the void between life and death. Between death and rebirth. The nothing - - from which everything springs." So, once again we have Oblivion claiming that everything that does exist came from within him. I posit that Oblivion is the counterpart to TOAA b/c the TOAA represents the existence of a Marvel Universe, it is the all-powerful force. Oblivion doesn't want power, doesn't want to rule, etc. - - Instead he bides his time, waiting until once again there is nothing (and occasionally actively attempts to bring about the nothingness he desires). Also, I think of the TOAA as being represented by light and light is energy. Oblivion is the other end of that spectrum. On a side note - I would highly suggest to anybody who hasn't read The Ultimates 2 series that wrapped up last month, do so. It's only 10 issues and has to be the greatest Cosmic Story told in the last 10 years and maybe longer. I mean, that series goes all out and touches on SOOOOO many things. Eternity is in chains, Galactus stops being a planet eater, Ego is in there, the Celestials, cosmic entities die, etc., etc. This video tries to tie together some of what was revealed within that series with what I can find in Oblivion's scant 20 or so appearances to date. To make matters more confusing Oblivion does have/exist within a "Realm" of his own where heroes meet him face to face and where his heralds interact with him but think of it all as more of an abstraction than a real thing when they are there. When Iceman is there Oblivion tries to show him what Oblivion truly means by removing him from existence and as one might expect Iceman returns not remembering a thing about where he went or what took place because he simply ceased to be. Enough for now or I'll have enough to do a whole other video on!

What happened in the time period between the creation of the first multiverse and the 7th?
@Cosmic.Comics6 жыл бұрын
I don't have my notes in front of me but will answer this as best I can. We don't know how most of these multiverses started or ended but most of them appear to have a planet similar to Earth as we find it in Earth-616 (We haven't seen all of them so we can't say this is 100% true but each multiverse most likely holds that potential). One of the iterations was the world of the X-Men cartoons (The 4th?). Galactus comes from the 6th iteration, one of the few things to survive the end of the 6th iteration which ended in a cosmic crunch. The change from the 7th to Modern Marvel appears to be an exception to how this usually takes place (The Marvel Universe went from the 7th to the 8th in the most recent Secret Wars).

I have a Devil's Advocate arguement. Oblivion, being an abstract, while literally existing before existence, should be LESS powerful while existence is extant. He would gain power as existence falters, as (lower case) oblivion comes closer. However, when he gains what he desires (between 'existences'), he loses all power (and perhaps his own (I hate saying this) existence). I say that, because as an abstract, if there is nothing to conceive of the abstract notion or idea, he sort of can't exist. Other abstracts exist only within existence. Without time flowing within existence, Infinity (I hate how the names are juxtaposed): the idea of time can have no meaning. Without space having form within existence, Eternity: the idea of space can have no meaning. Oblivion, while 'existing' before existence (by default), and existing the first moment of the end of existence, has no causality to be imagined or thought of, in the (lower case) oblivion. All abstracts cease when Oblivion 'wins.' Counterarguement: OAA 'existing' outside existence would guarantee Oblivion's existence.

@Cosmic.Comics6 жыл бұрын
Just pulled the below material from a wiki - looks like i was a little wrong. Doorman was granted new/extra powers once he accepted the job as Avatar of Oblivion (a couple of those powers we've seen in use by Deathurge so perhaps both characters got the shared abilities from Oblivion). Doorman is a mutant born with several innate abilities including: Darkforce Teleportation: Doorman is a class-10 teleporter. His body is a portal to the Darkforce Dimension, allowing people or items to pass through him or walk through any solid objects Doorman stands against. When creating a door through an object, Doorman is often surrounded by floating black spheres that also create an outline of his body on the opposite side of any object. Intangibility: Doorman's Darkforce portal is constant making him completely intangible allowing people or items to enter the Darkforce dimension against his will. Additionally, he can phase through solid objects. Upon his death, Oblivion recruited Doorman to serve as his Angel of Death because of his connection to the Darkforce Dimension. Oblivion resurrected Doorman and granted him several powers including: Death Sense: Doorman has enhanced cosmic knowledge allowing him to see beyond the veil of life and death. He can also see other beings travelling on ethereal planes. Darkforce Manipulation: In addition to his Darkforce Teleportation, Doorman can also create solid objects from Darkforce such as ski poles and skis. Flight: Doorman is capable of flight at light speed. Superhuman Durability: Doorman cannot be physically harmed. Costume Summoning: Doorman can change into his costume instantly. Abilities Doorman has some hand-to-hand combat training and is an experienced card player.

Yep, should have made this more clear in the video but I was having a lot of fun with this one. TOAA would still be top dog because Oblivion is only the physical representation of an idea. The Cosmic Abstracts (Lady Death, Infinity, Mater Chaos, etc.) do interact with the world but Oblivion can't even insert himself into the fabric of reality and thus is left having to get Avatars (such as Deathurge) to enact his desire to draw all things back to a state of Oblivion. It's hard to be powerful when you are the literal representation of nothing/nothingess. I've got a video in the works but probably still several months out where I'll go into detail about the Cosmic Abstracts, the state of their existence, etc. in detail.

Oblivion is nothingness incarnate. The One Above All is the thing that is above everything, both non-existent and existent, he is above everything that is, was, and is yet to be. The One Above All didnt create anything. He didnt need to. He exists outside of the omniverse. Marvel universes < Marvel Multiverse < every other Multiverse (the multiverse of Sega games, the Multiverse of Dark Horse comics, etc) The One Above All exists OUTSIDE of ALL of these.

I'll find the time to finish my video on the Cosmic Abstracts one day. Oblivion stands no further or lower than any other Cosmic Abstracts because in the he is nothing more than a representation of an idea given form. Oblivion is in fact, even more removed from most Cosmic Abstracts because he can't interact directly with anything that exist within the multiverse. That being said, the concept of Oblivion within the Marvel Universe is powerful and this makes him strong. I have yet to cover the fulcrum in detail on this channel but I would consider it more of a force/concept/tool/balancing mechanism. A scale that that holds things in balance and autocorrects the Universe when things begin to become unbalanced. Always working but never seen. Those coincidental moments that work in the good guys favor at the last moment, maybe that's not comic book luck - it might be the fulcrum throwing balance back into the mix. A great comic looking at the concepts of the Cosmic Abstracts and how they work/exist within the Marvel Universe is Quasar Vol 1 #37.

I don't know, I think Oblivion is an exaggerator & is the Yang of Lady Death's Yin ☯️! As Eternity & Infinity are 2 each other
