Really enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for the knowledge about how to use hugs and this one in particular, I'm new to knife making and this really demonstrated how to properly use a jig and create a good bevel. Very much what I needed.

This looks like a great product. I think the best feature is the angle adjustment. Most jigs out there don’t actually indicate what angle you are grinding at. It seems like this feature would lead to good consistent bevels when making the same knife build over again. Thanks for reviewing it

Nice work and thank you. Glad you mentioned the adjustment slide at 9:11, trying to make the blade edge parallel. I’m wondering how well these jigs work if your blade belly has a radius back toward the choil.

So I have this exact same jig (just the larger version) and a problem I keep having is my bevel isn’t maintaining the same distance from the edge all the way down. I am pushing the tip more into the belt like you show in the video, but it’s still not perfectly even. I wish I could post a photo of it so you can see what I mean.

Jason Northguard and I actually invented the Tilt Table. Many have copied or stolen our design which will eventually be worked out in court. Simple answer to your question is the Tilt Table in my opinion is much better!!!

Do you think the aluminum acts as a heat sink to pull the best from the blade?
@neilyakuza6595
@neilyakuza6595 11 ай бұрын
You only need to quench frequently if your knife is already hardened and tempered so you do not lose the hardness and temper of the blade. If tou are grinding out a knife blank that has not been heat treated yet, constant cooling of the blade is not necessary.

Have you figured out a way to get the width of the bevel the same at the tip as it is at the plunge with the OBM jig? I see that like some of mine, yours are narrower at the tip than at the plunge.
@DIYeasycrafts
@DIYeasycrafts 3 жыл бұрын
That is one of the problems with any 90 degree jig. You can pull the handle toward you or away from the grinder as you get to the tip. That will help a little. Otherwise I take a look at the Tilt Table jig that I use on all my bevels. Jayson Northgard and I developed it because of the same issue. bergknifemaking.com/collections/knife-making/products/tilt-table-knife-bevel-grinding-jig

@DIYeasycrafts
@DIYeasycrafts 3 жыл бұрын
No Sir most knives are ground before heat treating
@thejoneses100
@thejoneses100 3 жыл бұрын
@@DIYeasycrafts that is patently false. Common practice is to harden/temper and then grind. You keep a bucket of water around while grinding for a reason - to avoid overheating and losing your temper. That being said, of course it can be done either way, but depending on length/ thickness of stock, grinding before heat treat may cause warpage upon treatment.

so if you want a 20 degree bevel you would set it to 10 for each side?
@DIYeasycrafts
@DIYeasycrafts 4 жыл бұрын
Yes but 20 degree bevel is usually for the micro bevel
@Grizz0220
@Grizz0220 2 жыл бұрын
What angle do you start the jig at for each bevel?
@DIYeasycrafts
@DIYeasycrafts 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on thickness of the blade and how wide you want the bevel to be. Primary bevel should bring both side down to thickness of about a dime on the blades edge. Micro bevel should be about 20 degrees

No way are the grind lines even to the tip
@DIYeasycrafts
@DIYeasycrafts 4 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely get the grind lines even with edge scribed line. Width of bevel at tip will always be a bit narrower but can be maximized by arcing jig away as you get to the tip. See video for details.
