Entrancing music and lyrics. The repetitions of words, like taking a breath of fresh air at a steady slow phase. It put me to rest, when my body was tense. The simplicity met complexity at Observatory. It put me to rest. Like a bird high up in the sky below me was a Crest. Where an Observatory put me to rest.

Definitely the best track on the best album. You can feel the love. The Captain used to go to Observatory Crest in his youth, and I have loved this track since first release back in the day, and now I have his music with me at all times.

I've always loved this song, and many other Beefheart songs. With my new speakers the atmospheric quality of the production is really coming through even more. This is footage of an earlier version of the Magic Band. I think it was on the beach in Cannes, France. He is not singing Observatory Crest. It was my favorite song on that record, though (Blue jeans and moon beams).

OK bluejeans is no trout mask, but its got some great moments - I love this song. I do think the album as a whole is way better than 'Unconditionally Guaranteed' which I can't get on with at all. 'Ice Cream' was a truly great way to finish his music career - not many pull something quite so new and brilliant out of the bag for their last. Any contenders?
