This is incredible... what a superb resource to work out best positions for the lunar standstill next year. The spreadsheet is a stroke of genius, we salute you!

I'm glad you like it! I want everyone to be able to experience and observe the major lunar standstill!

This year, the Full Moon occurs at the Solstice and will trace a much lower arc across the southern sky at locations in the northern hemisphere. Where I reside, this means the Full Moon in June will get no higher than approximately 16° above the south horizon! This creates various photo opportunities for all of us. Thank you for posting this great information. Very few in the astronomical community are taking notice.

I cannot thank you enough for this video and google document! Using what you shared, I was able to see the northern major lunar standstill moon rising on April 13, 2024 from the Ancestral Puebloan site of Chimney Rock in southwest Colorado.

Thanks! Great photos and presentation! I'm always watching thin crescents rise in daylight when most people don't even bother. Link to the post: facebook.com/groups/archastrodb/permalink/1382053032475973/

Just been looking at the Moon tonight and it has Jupiter just off to left and keep on going and you have Uranus roughly halfway between Jupiter and the Pleiades.

Great video again, thank you! Basicly, one could photograph the Moon from inside Newgrange on januar 25th 2024?
@ArchaeoastronomyDatabase11 ай бұрын
I'm glad you liked the video! Between 24 and 25 January 2024 the moon will pass through summer solstice positions quite rapidly (difficult to catch on the horizon at a specific match), and Newgrange is oriented to the southeast and winter solstice sunrise. Did you mean a different date? A crescent moon will rise in line with the Newgrange roof box in the early morning hours of 4 February 2024 which would be something to see indeed. I've sent them many such lunar proxy dates, but nothing has come of it so far.
@Majorfatal111 ай бұрын
@@ArchaeoastronomyDatabase Ah, my mistake! I just forgot Newgrange orientation ... Ok, you could make a photo of rising Moon on that date at Stounhange, and see how it looks through rocks. There is an optical illusion we see them 3 times bigger near horisont ... Do you have that in your software? Cheers!
@ArchaeoastronomyDatabase11 ай бұрын
@@Majorfatal1 Yes it would work on 25 Jan at Stonehenge though not quite the right position due to timing (it moves through solstice declination values fast at this point in the cycle). Still it would be visible between the stones and over the Heel Stone instead of to the left of it as the ancient sun was positioned. I've contacted them about even more perfect proxies in the past and they did manage to get one good shot but I haven't heard from them recently. The optical illusion is indeed dramatic, but the software doesn't have to take it into account as it is all happening in our brains.
@Majorfatal111 ай бұрын
@@ArchaeoastronomyDatabase So what software represents 0,5 degree or 1,5 degree. I wouldnt say just in brains, but in eyes because of atmosferic .. refraction, difraction, I don't know ..
@ArchaeoastronomyDatabase11 ай бұрын
@@Majorfatal1 Try this experiment: Whenever you see the moon either low on the horizon or high in the sky, hold out your little finger at arms-length and cover the disc of the moon. You will cover it in all cases as the moon's apparent angular diameter varies only slightly from 0.56° to 0.49° because the orbit is elliptical and thus it is sometimes slightly closer or further away. The sun's apparent angular diameter is 0.53° so sometimes it is covered completely during a total eclipse, but if the moon is further out it leave a ring of the sun's edge showing during an annular eclipse.

At 13:10 you are showing the azimuth chart with northern and southern rising and setting maximum…In my understanding the moon maximum’s are 5.1 degrees greater than the solsticial maximum that should place the rising northern maximum at around 55 degrees and southern rising at around 125 degrees not 35 and 145degrees respectively… the graphic should show the angular distance between the maximum, + or - in relation to the equator not the north and south..?
@ArchaeoastronomyDatabase10 ай бұрын
Great inquiry, that is the way to learn! It is the moon's orbit that is inclined 5.1 degrees relative to the ecliptic (plane in which the Earth orbits the sun) and at the equator that would translate into 5.1 degrees of azimuth beyond solstice maximums as the sun and moon are rising perpendicular to the horizon. As you move away from the equator the sun and moon rise on more and more angled paths. The 5.1 degrees is maintained if you measure these paths perpendicularly (with some slight changes due to lunar parallax), but if you measure along the horizon the azimuth angle widens the further north/south you go until you reach extreme enough latitudes that they no longer rise at one extreme and remain above the horizon for a full turn of the Earth at the other. @ArchaeoastronomyDatabase7 ай бұрын
The peak is 2025 but for over a year on either side of that, the moon reaches similar positions each month. Every opportunity to observe should be utilized.

@@ArchaeoastronomyDatabase so basicly one of those peak moments could be reached even at this point ..as i understand...i know these what u call elite ppl are very concerned about this peak time cycle..so...they r weird..
