Living with mental disorders is extremely challenging, especially when it comes to obsessive-compulsive disorder and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. Despite the similarities in their names, they do not share many similarities. In this video we are going to explore the differences. OCD is ruled by intrusive thoughts called, obsessions that cause anxiety and force the person to perform compulsions for relief. OCPD is ruled by perfectionism and detail. Unlike individuals with OCD, people with OCPD are not self-aware and can hurt the people around them. Their relationships are more susceptible, and they face more issues in the workplace. Nonetheless, people suffering from both disorders can benefits from a variety of treatments. To learn more about OCD and OCPD please check out the resources provided below.

People say they have OCD like its an accessory. Its so hard for me to not pick at everything. I pick at my skin constantly and will pick at my face in the mirror for 2-6 hours daily. It flies by like nothing and I can’t get myself to stop. I’ve scarred myself up and cause acne when there isn’t any. I also pull out my hair and brows and lashes. I’ve gotten better about the brows and the lashes is very infrequent, but i just can’t make myself stop. Its so hard and I don’t know why because I know I should stop

Ocpd but you're introverted and socially anxious so you can't tell people you don't actually like the way they do things you just sit and let your mind start becoming obsessive about the ocpd.

Shit. Today I just learned that I share a lot of traits with OCPD. And can tell that it happened around 2018 when I got super depressed. I kept my head down and spoke to nobody at work back then, and at my current job now (altercations between coworkers made me worse), I was ALWAYS walking around looking for something to do. I've gotten mad at my sister and her boyfriend due to the laziness being shown from them and keeping this apartment clean. I yelled at her man because he wanted to take his sweet ass time to get up. Maybe I'm misunderstood, not just by everyone around me. BUT, MYSELF.

@cm-yu6gu
@cm-yu6gu Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, it depends how much not doing those behaviours affect you. People with ocd would have a near or full breakdown and would not be able to continue with their day if things like the bed are not in order. If you just have a preference and it kind of irks you it's not the same as suffering from OCD which is debilitating and stops you living life

Anyone else also correlate with: 1) Compulsive shopping?? 2) Obsession with honesty and truth?? 3) Overly thoughtful and empathetic (quick to help others much more than the average person would be.) 4) Hyper-sexuality?? 5) Also, any stimulants (Adderall, Coke, etc...) STRONGLY worsens obsessive, worrying, negative thoughts??

My mom has ocpd and I have ocd, she is the kinda person to use ocd as and adjectives or make jokes like “obsessive Christmas disorder” even though I tell her how much it hurts me, she just responds by telling me that she’s just coping with her mental health with humor. I try so hard to explain the difference and how much these stupid things hurt me but she just won’t listen. I’m tempted to show her this video now. She needs l know how different they are and how much she is harming my mental health.
@Monipenny1000
@Monipenny1000 7 ай бұрын
Show her the video with kindness, not with anger and frustration, be open and explore with her, remember that she has a disorder she can't control anymore than you can control yours. OCPD have bad jokes, it's part of the disorder, to cope. Why are you trying so hard to explain the difference to her? Why is it so important to you that she knows the diffference? Maybe she doesn't want to admit to her disorder? Take a different approach. If something doesn't work, try something different but it helps to understand her disorder. Are you an adult? Do you live in the same home with her? Having your own home will be a blessing. Please understand that I am coming from a place of understanding, not judgement. I learned about OCPD at the end of last year here on YT. Finally, there was a name for my husbands' and his dads odd behavior's. OCPD people are very difficult to live with. Both my therapist and psychiatrist said, "that's a difficult disorder to live with!" I had lived with this man for almost 37 years, it has not been easy. The first 15 years, he was comorbid with malignant NPD. It was my decisive actions that forced some of his changes. His dad was far worse, his poor mother, may she rest in peace.
