A lot of people use Obsidian for planning Dungeons and Dragons games :) Using a map like that is 100% practical in that case!

This is incredibly cool! I've thought about using something similar for ages but always balked at the amount of coding I thought I'd have to learn to implement it. The incredible memory boost one derives from placing ideas in a physical space is one reason I still keep some notes, natively, on physical notebooks (screen-shotting and tagging into Obsidian). I'll be following your lead to exploit this creative and useful format soon!

You read my mind! After I watched your first map video, I thought about extending it to a fantasy map OR a library photo. Thanks again for a great video!

Very good explanation and gives us some ideas in which we can use these powerful plugins. 👍

Such a cool idea! I've been trying with something like this myself, so it's nice to see another execution of the idea.

Excalidraw could have something similar by simply linking to other pages through icons ! Instead of text, you could make maps even with images

This triggered an idea. I will do an Excalidraw script for this purpose...

Amazing stuff. Hope to try this out someday. (I just wish there was a way to further customize the map after Azgaar generates a version. But even without, this is amazing.)
@VisualPKM3 жыл бұрын
You can customize the map to your heart's desire in QGIS. There are some good tutorials linked on Azgaar's export page to learn how to do it. It took me a few trials, but finally, I was able to load all the geojson files and create layers in QGIS + add texture maps.

@@VisualPKM Interesting. To clarify, I would be able to create my own continent shapes, oceans, etc in QGIS?
@VisualPKM3 жыл бұрын
Yes, though it does take a bit of work to create the shapes you desire, but you have two options to help with that. You can actually draw a map by hand, make a photo and use it in QGIS to draw the map polygons over your drawing. Also QGIS can convert a raster image to polygons, which later you can fill with texture maps, and group into layers. It takes a bit of time to learn... but not that much. Took me 3 nights from zero knowledge of mapping and qgis to learn these sort of basics. I also tried playing with www.wonderdraft.net/, but I found that the maps I drew my hand came nowhere close to what Azgaar's tool generated.

If you increase the number of "states ", it is necessary to make the whole process every time? Open the gis and etc.. It is possible just to insert a new location inside the excalidraw?

Amazing research and clear presentation. Thank you. Do you have a video that explains how to create the simple visual diagram that you showed at the end? I think we can do it only in excalidraw without the need for a map plugin. What is the advantage? Big kudos to you and all the best in 2022!
@VisualPKM3 жыл бұрын
you mean that very simplified "map" I drew in Exclalidraw and then loaded in as an image to the leaflet plugin? It is just to demonstrate that you could draw your map in excalidraw as well. Also you are right, you can easily add links in Excalidraw as well. I added a script to the Excalidraw script store "Add Link and Open Page" to facilitate adding a map pin and attaching a link to a document to that pin. you can see an example here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3_OpHWGmpxoftE

Nice...do you still use fantasy map of content? Is it a success? because I am also thinking of giving it a try.

It’s really interesting, but I want to create something like dashboard for my habits tracking. There is a plugin called Tracker, but it renders in something boring. Maybe you know some way to create something more fancy then calendar or table, using Excalidraw, but keeping it able to update data automatically? One of first ideas came to my mind is growing grass or flowers, describing how productive you were last week🙂
@VisualPKM Жыл бұрын
I love the idea and it is completely doable. I might even create a video following your idea... the only issue is, I do not track my habits, so I would need to fake the data :) 3 approaches come to mind immediately, probably more if I think about it a bit harder... - You can generate a daily drawing based on a script. Drawing flowers might be a bit tricky, though I have some thoughts how to make this happen. Here's an example of a daily drawing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fprNfGpqepiAfK8 - You can add an onLoad script to Excalidraw, which will be executed when you open a drawing, again, you can place your flower drawing function in the onLoad function. Here's an example of the on-load function: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYConZ2wj5hmfpo - Or you can use a dataview-js script to dynamically create a drawing. Here's an example of a script drawing a mindmap: zsviczian.github.io/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/Examples/dataviewjs_mindmap.html

6:45 Better if you download the map in SVG format, no? Little size and infinite scaling.
