I've been looking for this exact type of simple, incremental, step-by-step explanation since i first discovered the app, and now that I've found it, I finally feel confident enough to start and type some mundane stuff in the software just for the fun of linking it. If you want to future proof your notes you may want to use the markdown standard for links [title](link to file) rather than the [[file]] format since only Obsidian understands the [[file]] format and other markdown editors won't know where the files are located. It's a little more typing but you are still able to have Obsidian automatically create the file on click but with the added benefit that if you ever move off of Obsidian all your links will still work.
@linkingyourthinking2 жыл бұрын
That's true, Alex. There's actually a thread in the Obsidian subreddit that brings up the tradeoffs as well as a converter that someone could use in the future to change their [[file]] links to markdown standard if they ever needed to: www.reddit.com/r/ObsidianMD/comments/pvi1r3/new_user_should_i_stay_with_pure_markdown_or_use/

Love how giddy you look while explaining this. I was exactly the same when I first discovered these tools for network thought. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I was at a crossroad between obsidian and RemNote. I wanted the power of the flexibility of rems (the block content unit of RemNote) and the future proofness of obsidian. In the end I took the plunge with RemNote when I found out that I could regularly export everything in a Markdown folder that I can open as an obsidian vault with all connections preserved.

I've suffered from ADD and brain fog my ENTIRE life. From kindergarten, parents and adults were telling me that I wasn't thinking correctly. I always knew this wasn't true but that there was indeed something I needed to fix with my thinking. It wasn't that I was struggling to think, its that I was thinking TOO MUCH, I was drawing ALL the connections and the only reason I seemed spacey was because I was busy trying to organize the mass amount of information that my mind and the universe had so graciously allowed me to access. 32 years later and as the universe would have it, I'm a goofy writer with a big dream and my thoughts elaborate more and more with every step of my journey. Ive always had a knack for computer skills, which has been incredibly helpful in digesting my thoughts, finding ways to utilize weird early internet applications or even design my own kind of programs to accomplish my ideas (very crudely at a young age ofcourse haha). I've wandered a lot on this journey by myself. Never quite experiencing people who think like me, let alone have the desire to figure things out to the extent that I'd like. Not only am relieved to finally find a program that fits so many of the things that I usually am having to sprawl on my computer, notebooks, scribbles on napkins that I desperately try to keep track of, and sometimes even my own arm if a piece of paper is not available and my phone is dead but I know that I must NOT lose this thought, but I am also just incredibly happy to see that there are others out there like me. Other's who share the desire to maximize the organization within our lives and minds. Other's who care enough to share what they have learned and built. Thank you SO much for simply showing me how to use the program. It's amazing how such a simple concept can lead us to so many upgrades, not just in writing, note taking, but as many of the authors of these tutorials have expressed, this shit is phenomenal for our experiences and growth in everyday life. Did I already say thank you for sharing? Thank you. Much love - 💜🏝🛸

9:35 This example clicked for me. If you atomize concepts, you can later use them as building blocks and interconnect your notes at the same time you think. Some of the words you would use to create a new note would have extra meaning if you link them to its corresponding note (node).

I am so glad I landed here in 2024 after 3 years of this video, I started using Obsidian in May 2024. "Better late than never" right? Now, this video here should be the ultimate starting point in anyone starting their note-taking journey. Mostly the apps like Notion, Obsidian, ... are similar in concept but the rationale behind that takes years to learn AND you just taught us that in some minutes. 🙂

This is a great App, I'm currently building a homebrew world for my D&D game and this has been a lot easier to use over other notetaking and worldbuilding apps like World Anvil 10/10

You're so passionate about this tool! I was flirting with the idea of using it for a while already. And, honestly, after 7 minutes watching this video, I just paused it to go to Apple Store and download it. I find the structure of general note-taking apps to be either extremely poor, or extremely full of unnecessary features. Either way, I find note-taking apps ALWAYS lacking something. I see Obsidian as being the diamond that is lacking in every other tool/app out there. I don't care how long it can take me to get used to Obsidian (I actually think I'll get the hang of it easily), I will finally stick with something! Thank you for this! I see so much value in this way of linking my thinking. That is how I learn! I'm so excited to start using it!!! Please, keep this app existing forever .

I came here to learn about obsidian, but I appreciate the background of a thought process and how to construct thoughts and ideas... The "hows" and the "whys". Thanks, Nick!

I should try this out! Does it need a constant connection to the internet?

I needed a new note-taking app and did some research. I had heard of Obsidian before, but it never sounded like something I'd use. After doing a few google searches to find a good app, I proceeded to download Obsidian. When I opened the app I realised I had no idea how this works. I went to KZbin to find a tutorial, and after watching just yours, I knew this was exactly the app I needed! I have ADHD and my brain makes the stangest links sometimes. And I often forget things because I don't really write it down. I used to bullet journal, but I could never really link pages... Until now. I needed something that was simple, but also able to link my thinking - just like you said. I cannot wait to explore this app this year! Thanks so much!❤️
