hello my friend, passing quickly here to praise this tutorial. I don't know about you, but I always found few tutorials teaching how to do this, and in my humble opinion, everyone failed because they didn't explain the reason for doing this and that to achieve the goal. You gave more than the recipe for cake, congratulations !!! It was a pleasure to watch this tutorial in addition to the pleasure of learning, it is as I always say, to teach something, first you have to want the other person to really learn. And you demonstrate this in your work, so thank you Please, sorry for my English, it is not the best. A big hug, thanks again and please don't give up to make a difference. Either way, it doesn't matter, the world needs it

Yes, simply use one of the 3 "alpha" export presets to export your project.

Video I shot on green screen add a green screen image and run through settings in this video will make it transparent background for other programs?

Interesting workaround for Shotcut not being able to natively export videos with transparency. When I was making my (moderately complex) gaming overlay I first constructed it in Shotcut - then found out about the limitation. D'oh! My solution at the time was to teach myself Kdenlive and then recreate the project in that software but if I had known about this method I may have been able to make it work in Shotcut in the end... Thanks for sharing!
@musicalboxbitspieces3 жыл бұрын
Glad you like it and thanks for the comment. I can imagine your frustration. I did not "invent" this workaround myself by the way. I came up with it after reading a couple of very old threads on the Shotcut forum. I simply adapted the method for the more recent versions of Shotcut.

Hi. How do you create the green track or the green clip (eg V1)? Thanks.
@sewingmachinesindetail3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this tutorial :). I got the 20.04.12 version, and it do also have the "pix_fmt=argb" in "alpha Quicktime Animation" preset. I however tried to use the H.264 baseline Preset, and it seems also to work. But yes, you may have to work with the filters to make the edges best - it is not that easy with smaller text on top of something. Have you got a reason to select the "alpha Quicktime Animation" preset?
@musicalboxbitspieces3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment. Only reason is that this preset worked every time for me so far. I was told that WebM works also, but results vary depending (i think) on the number of tracks you use. I never used H.264 baseline. I will have to give it a try. Thanks

In the current shotcut (21.12.24) , you just need to export to a .mov file, to keep the transparency, no need to use a green track and chroma key filters. So if the .png in V2 & V2 has a transparent background, you don't need V1
@musicalboxbitspieces2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it's good to know. But does it work if the project have more than one track? That's the main reason why I made this tutorial. To be able to export with transparency animation created on multiple tracks.
@TimLauridsen2 жыл бұрын
@@musicalboxbitspieces Yes, works fine with export projects with multiple tracks, I have made Lower Third animations with multiple layer of .png and color and text and exported them as .mov files and can just add them to a layer in another project.
@musicalboxbitspieces2 жыл бұрын
@@TimLauridsen I'll have to try that! And then maybe publish an update of this tutorial. Thanks!

Can confirm that the latest version (now on 22.12.21) sorts this issue out, both for the .mov format and the .webm format, for multitrack compositions.

Using Shotcut version 22.03.30, there are no options to copy timeline to source as instructed in the video. What now? Update: Found in discussion that none of this is needed anymore. Just export as .mov Glad someone pointed this out, thanks.

I have a question. Is it possible to export a PNG sequence with an alpha channel?
@musicalboxbitspieces Жыл бұрын
Yes, I just tested with an image sequence rendered from Blender. Check this short video to see the steps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5jOlKqVlq2diNE

@@musicalboxbitspieces Thank you very much! I'll give it a try! It looks like you're importing a sequence rather than exporting, though. The preset “QT animation” saves a lossy video. It’s not great for animation.

I've been trying to export a video that is actually an overlay for Twitch. I had done this before, but now it's no longer working in the method I had used before. I can't figure out how to get it to work. Could you help me out, please?

The function to copy to source doesn't seem to exist anymore. What now?
@musicalboxbitspieces Жыл бұрын
I really should do an updated version of that tutorial. It's true that "Copy Timeline to Source" (or whatever it was called) was removed. To export with transparency now, you can skip the "green screen" part. Just create your video with transparent parts, then export using the "alpha > Quicktime Animation" export preset.

@steveennever99053 жыл бұрын
Why bother with this if you're going to end up using the Alpha chroma key anyway? It doesn't make sense. Creating a stop motion with png images & exporting that with a transparent background - that would be interesting. But I see no way of creating a transparent background.
@musicalboxbitspieces3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Watch the video again or watch the entire video :) The green background and the Chroma key filter are only used once. In the final clip, the chromakeyed parts will be transparent. I didn't try it but this technique should work for your stop motion projects.
