I live in a very conservative place and I present as masc white man. I find a lot of bros assume I'm on their "side" just because I like camping and shooting and such. But I find I can use that privilege to get them to listen to me about important things more than they'd listen to anyone else. It's unfortunate that certain people will only listen to masculine-presenting men about anything. But we can use it to the advantage of the people we care about. We can use our privilege for very important things.
@LukeCrawford-n7nКүн бұрын
I have a similar experience. Friends on the left and the right both assume I agree with them on everything major because the issues are so obvious that there's no way any reasonable person could disagree with them, and that provides a lot of opportunity to introduce nuance into black and white issues. Hardest part is holding your tongue until you find the question to ask that causes the most soul searching. "Why should the government get to violate bodily autonomy in cases of abortion when we agree it's wrong in every other case? Wasn't overriding our autonomy to save other lives their whole justification for vaccine mandates?" "What if transfemme athletes start to push AFAB women out of certain sports?" If you're lucky the group will be split over the answer and you won't have to support either side, just let them debate on their own. I kind of assume it's the same for other groups, I'm never going to convince a black woman of anything, but maybe somebody she views as more like her could?
@brandonspivey5282Күн бұрын
I also live in a very conservative place Southern Georgia and it's sad that so many conservatives don't believe the second amendment should apply basically to any group they don't like. I don't know how many people I've met that thought I was on their side. Talking about if a trans person came into their store to buy a gun. They would only sell them a single bullet and when I didn't laugh they tried to explain the joke to me and I just told him it wasn't funny at all. There are too many conservatives that make fun of fuds for saying nobody needs an assault rifle, but they are the same way. They just don't believe gay people or black people or literally anyone who doesn't look or act just like them deserves to own a firearm

This whole video reminded me of my aunt. I was kicked out for being trans in April and a few weeks later my aunt contacted me. We had a chat, she was very supportive of me and understanding of the circumstances. She said if I needed any help, call her first. Well, a couple months later, August if memory serves, I got an eviction notice. Our landlord jacked up the price by 40% and I wasn't gonna make that by my income, so I needed to move out. I called up my aunt and asked her if I could stay over at hers for a week or two, to figure out where I can afford to live in. Her response was "hey umm, it's best that you go on and apologize to your parents, and boymode until you're out of their house". Retrospectively, maybe this is the only option she saw viable for me and didn't trust me with my ability to pull together. I can understand that now. But at the time, telling me to go back into the closet and beg my way back for accommodation felt like betrayal from her end. So I just said okay, hung up and went it my way. Nowadays I'm in a housing with my name on the lease and enough income to do pretty much whatever I fancy as a student. I'm still a bit bitter at what my aunt did, but I cannot entirely blame her for being overwhelmed at the situation - it was my first steps into independence, albeit forced by my parents for completely the wrong reasons.

I think you touched on something important here, that I feel like too many people see as the same thing, and that's the difference between proactive and provocative. I see a sentiment in some communities that doing anything less than as loudly as possible is the same thing as doing nothing, and I feel like that can discourage people who can't or don't want to go "all out" from participating at all. Yes, there's absolutely a time for flying the banners high and shouting it from the rooftops, but just as important--and far more often overlooked or discounted, I think--is the quiet support, the personal allyship, and the small acts of kindness. You don't have to save the whole world at once. Helping one person in one small way still makes the world a better place.

the concept of the grey man is to not be noticed. Started with the prepper crowd, the idea that you don't advertise the fact that you're armed and well stocked. Don't wear tactical clothing, ect. Just be a dude that people forget. Its evolved to describe it as a tactical concept of not standing out in a crowd or society. This is not significantly different from how the LGBT community has been protecting itself from discrimination for centuries.
@ChoChan776Күн бұрын
Fair points, but I see many people use it as a bludgeon. "You guys aren't speaking up about the same things I'm speaking up about, you guys aren't agreeing with me, you guys aren't disrupting your own lives to align with my values, you're wrong, you should be in jail." Very similar to the "Why Mommy Carries a Gun" mentality. I just want to live my life the way I want to live it, and I want everyone else to be able to do the same. I guess it's human nature to use whatever we can as a tool of warfare, even under the guise of being good.

This is a very solid and thoughtful take, and hearing the story of Margaret rang a bit too close to home lol

You’re a cool dude Mr. InrangeTV. Very interested in signing up for the patreon just to pick your brain.

I appreciate Karl for not being a brainrotten right-winger like so many in the "gun community". I'll never forgive Brandon Herrera for running for office as a Republican (and losing lol), but specifically for the fact that he campaigned together with MARJORIE TAYLOR-GREENE and MATT GAETZ.

Yeah, I can't really watch a lot of gun channels, there are only a handful of gun channels that I feel welcome in, so I really appreciate InRange.

Brandon had to run as a Republican if he wanted to win. He would have lost even harder as a "third-party" candidate and he would have gotten negative support if he tried to run as a Democrat. Democracy is full of problems and two-party (first-past-the-post) democracy really makes those problems shine.

Community. It’s only about community. Your street, your neighbourhood. Stop sub contracting law and morality out to the stinking government and the militaristic police. Take charge of your communities. Think globally, act locally. Seek alliances within your communities. Neighbors, friends and family is all that matters. The village is all that matters. Love, acceptance, understanding and compassion. All within the embrace of your community. Don’t forget, if you don’t commit sin over chrissie, Jesus will have died in vain. Cheers.
