Cass, you're the best career advice person on KZbin. I watched your videos when I was unemployed and now that I have a job I still love listening to you because of the relevant content. I like how you are real and not some fake personality. Ur the best. Just want to show some love.

Could you make a video about those of us who either ramble on or stutter over questions?

Idk why when people ask me these questions I feel like I can’t ever remember anything.

Mistake 3 is spot on. As a recruiter, I can't even begin to tell you how much I heard that when I was on the corporate side and even how much I still hear it. Even though some candidates mean well and they feel it shows some studying on their part, it is all about delivery and they need to be aware of that OR it may be perceived as condescending. Great way to point that out Cass.

How is it condescending to compliment the company lmao

The mistake about not being specific enough in our anecdotes reminds me of an analogy I read to describe people who seem to jump from non-sequitur to non-sequitur. It's like a dolphin jumping out of the water in one spot, and later suddenly jumping out of the water in another spot. Obviously, we know the dolphin got from point A to point B by swimming a path we couldn't see, but we can't see the path in others' brains to see how others' thoughts get from point A to point B. When it comes to thoughts, you're going to have to explain how the dolphin swam through the water.

When I get asked those standardized questions, I go into story mode to paint a picture. However I´ve come across recruiters let´s say either unprepared or not understanding the CV, it´s noticeable because you can see and tell that they actually look at it again and again , plus ask questions where the answer is already on the CV for example. And it´s not questions about it i.e "tell me about" but rather questions that are clearly already on the CV, which already answers their own question. Any company can write up great values on their websites , considering no one will write bad ones , that´s also why I ask the question to the hiring manager/recruiter what they like about working there....

I've got the job! Thanks so much for your content, I've been following your tips and I've got the job! Starting on the 15th this month :-) It was a 5 steps process, pretty long one, 3 interviews + technical project. Your STAR technique + The hard question really helped me to stand out. (My chanel is about Fitness but I am actually a APP UIUX designer). Thanks so much 😊

With the details thing, I struggle to balance putting in enough detail with making my answer succinct. In other words, I am scared of droning on/waffling and the interviewer switching off, or giving an answer that's too long. Sometimes I've tried to compensate for this by leaving out details, deliberately or accidentally.

Do you have any tips for having gaps in your resume? I had my first child nine years ago and started college when she was four. I have done odd cleaning jobs and babysitting in that time, but I have five children, so I haven't had time for much else while attending college. I graduate with my RBA in May. I'm starting to become concerned about not working for so long. How can I sell myself as a valuable candidate despite the gaps in my resume?
@Jess-Rabbit3 жыл бұрын
I am no expert but just be honest about why there are gaps and I think yours are totally valid. I am still somewhat early-ish in my career life (just turned 30) and sometimes use personal experiences that are relevant when interviewers ask questions I don't have professional experience with. Just make sure to relate your stories to why you'd be good for the job. Example - you can say that being a mom and going to school simultaneously taught you how to have excellent time management and multi tasking skills. Then give an example in the form of a story that backs your claims up. Hopefully that makes sense, again I'm no expert but I have had pretty decent luck with doing this in the past

For the "you" thing, don't you have to do that especially when you're asking the interviewer a question?
