You need barricade to preserve your block. Having combos like second wind/medical kit and feel no pain means you don't need to play your defensive cards for block and you can use things like power through for good block generation. Ironclad isn't a block centered character though. Silent and Defect have better per round block generation. Without baricade to prevent loss of block ironclad has a rough time generating large amounts of block consistently.

Not taking body slam kinda broke my brain. Imo barricade, entrench, body slam (plus sufficient draw and starter block) is one of the most iconic max offense/defense win-cons in the game

Just realized one of the top reasons I think Baalor is such a great player...his adaptability. Watching him today I realized how rapidly he changes up his playstyle to suit the situation (for example, I, for one, would almost never True Grit a Reaper 1:00:52, but when he did it I immediately thought "it didn't even occur to me, but it it seems correct"). He also burns his Entrenches regularly throughout this run, which is something I'm loathe to ever do if I'm equipped with the Barricade combo. Paired with his well honed ability to almost always find a solid approach from the choices he's offered, it's no wonder he's consistently...what like , top 3?....in the world.

Yeah watching this I realized just how much my decision making in fights is influenced by getting my "combo" or my perceived win condition down, without adapting. Burning the entrench or barricade was the right play a lot of the time and I wouldn't have been willing to pivot like that

Best rampage deck I ever built was able to go near infinite by destroying all but 3 cards. Two cards would generate block witht he help of abacus and some drawing shenanigans. Last card was rampage for damage. I would generate and store increasing amounts of block (i believe I had calipers) and scale the rampage… Until early act 3 when I was offered an upgraded body slam and the best rampage deck ever suddenly turned into a body slam deck instead. I woefully removed the rampage at the next shop

That's such a cool STS moment....when you realize how bad Rampage really is. It's actually flat out a completely terrible card in basically every way, considering another card has you - 100% correctly - immediately remove it even under the exact circumstances where it's good! I can't count how many hours of game time I've invested trying to make it be good in this or that deck, and it just never is.

@@CosmicIceCream Honestly, same. I’ve not tried as much but I’ve always wanted to make a functional rampage deck. I think the problem with it is just that in 99% of end game decks you’d be better off replacing the rampage with any other attack, and in that last 1% you’re only using rampage because you were never offered anything better or anything to scale your deck up a tier, under which circumstances it’s incredible you’ve gotten so far. I think the real problem with the card is that it is designed to have the highest potential late game, but it competes with cards whose potential is just much higher, and as a result its best use case is probably during act 1 when you have the least options. It’s not bad against most hallway fights, and decent in some elite fights as well as in probably either boss fight other than slime boss I think. Which I’m glad it has some niche but it’s a shame its potential is simply unreasonable. Desperado from the hermit though…

Orrery isn't a "gamble," it's almost always one of the strongest things you can buy in the shop if you have the gold. I think the only situation where I consider skipping it is if I had to take busted crown.

He had no strength so limit break would have done nothing. So between Immo+Bash vs Immo+Clash the Bash does more damage (hence kills bird to thorns faster and less hp loss)

Yeah, but it's everywhere and uppercut definitely isn't and when you need weak game, you take what you can get.

Yea both comments here are pretty much the obvious answer, I guess I more mean usually it just feels bad to take it. I feel like I have to be in a really bad spot, really early on in a run to ever consider taking it. Usually if clothesline is my best card reward option it automatically means skip is my actual best option. Funnily enough tho about 5 minutes after I made this comment I was in exactly this position lol! 13th floor and I hadn't had a single other takeable attack card show up in card rewards, then clothesline popped up and I facepalmed and clicked it haha! That deck didn't make it very far into act 2.
