The thing you say about only knowing how to do a few characters and constantly stealing from yourself when you were finishing off Xavier is honestly SO real. I relate to that on a personal level. So many times i caught myself ending up with similar characters over and over, even when the initial concepts and tropes are entirely different. I don't think it's a bad thing personally, it just shows how much the little guys i make reflect me. And it makes me feel things

Can I just say thank you for posting because while I created OCs I didn't know if I could use normal names granted your universe is a modern setting but mine as well but still a fictional land so I am happy to see that you have characters with normal names, because coming with fantasy names sometimes is such a pain!

None of my ocs use fantasy names. Especially my main ocs, who are in that medieval fantasy setting. Its actually better to use real names because then lore nerds will have a blast and its also easier to identify a character and such with it.

@@AtlasVoid_ehh I often use a combination. As a Wings of Fire fan, many of my OCs are named after an actual thing, which references their design, personality, or both, like Ayahuasca, a DnD character from the rainforest who is sort of crazy (Ayahuasca is a hallucinogen)

I'm lucky my story isn't really set in a fantasy world, it's really fun to research names and words and piece together different aspects to build a unique name with meaning behind it One of my favourites is one of my characters last name, "Viesadora" being a combination of "Viejo" meaning Old and "Pasadora" meaning Thinker

I got started with some Steven Universe OCs. Admittedly, they were derived from Bismuth's mentions of Gems we hadn't seen yet (Biggs Jasper, Crazy Lace Agate, Snowflake Obsidian) and were briefly part of a crazy AU where Rose's true identity got exposed way earlier than normal, the Crystal Gems fragmented over the reveal, and Steven grew up in the human zoo, but they eventually transitioned to something more canon-adjacent (with them now being a band of traveling Gems trying to make their way across America to meet the Crystal Gems). While I've sunsetted these characters in favor of characters from my big two show concepts, elements of them are still present in both show concepts' main casts.

Watching this gives me some bitter nostalgia over some once beloved ocs, most of which ended up inspired by other people’s ocs and characters from my favorite show at the time aka their parents 👀, if I remember correctly 2 of the characters’ moms were also ocs and had native American heritage. The 4 main ocs were all girls which is ironic considering their dads and uncles. Regretfully I got rid of any drawings I made of them and deleted any notes I wrote. I thought that I would just forget everything about them, but as you can see I haven’t 🫠 I kinda miss them…

I had no idea this challenge was a thing, all I really thought October was about was Inktober (which I suck at because pens are *not* it for me.) but oh my gosh, I’m so happy it is. I actually started drawing again rather recently, and as a beginner artist I’ve been enjoying it a lot. Best part? I’ve been subconsciously doing OCtober! I didn’t exactly start on October first, but that was *probably* because I had no idea this was a thing, lol. I’ll definitely keep going this month and make it a commitment. (Also conveniently I have 13 OCs over the span of 4 books, which means I can do 2 arts of each character, 4 full arts for each book, and a ship art :3)

Shout out to Marcel Duchamp, the silly little guy I sent along with my players at the beginning of the campaign so they would have someone to handle mapping their hexcrawl, who has ended up being their favorite NPC to the point where him being forced to return home is a bigger deal than a string of mysterious disappearances. Yes he has the same name as Marcel Duchamp the artist, no I did not realize until one of my players pointed it out to me.
