Thank you so much for this video. I decided to resurrect my dad's OceanCity 112 fishing reel for use on my boat. He stopped salt water fishing back in the 70's therefore this reel has been sitting around for 50 years. I am absolutely sure he never had it serviced because as a depression era teenager he learned frugality. I got it back together with no extra parts on the bench. Runs smooth.

Ocean City reels are some of my favorite reels. Garcia Mitchell 600 series also have a special place. I use both when on party boats to start conversations as well as catch fish. Great job as usual.

Thanks for sharing! They were both very well made reels and can continue to catch fish today - Dennis

Earlier this year I was able to find a nice Ocean City 300 spinning reel with an extra spool, handle, and other parts and the original paperwork. I wish I could find a 310 and 320 but they are harder to find. I felt that Ocean City was sn important historic US reel manufacturer that I needed to have one in my spinning reel collection. I always marvel at the ingenuity of these reel makers whose work has lasted for so long. It is a humbling realization that today we don’t know as much as we think we do and our predecessors were often more creative and intelligent than we are. When you get this reel all cleaned and polished it will be a stunning antique for this family to treasure.

Hey what's up. I use a drill to clean it,, Frame posts and screws fit in the drill -a small piece of sand paper helps a lot it will change the color to brass color but looks clean
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rey. You are basically removing the plating and are getting the posts to the bare metal. Do you use anything to protect the metal afterwards?

What you mentioned about the glove and the old grease is true. I've been a mechanic for close to forty years now and never wore gloves and no skin issues but a few years ago I became super involved in restoring and servicing vintage reels (again no gloves) and now since then I'm fighting a serious case of psoriasis in my working hand. The blistering and scaling drives me insane. I dont know what's in the reel grease but I'm a believer now but I'll never stop servicing reels but I wear gloves when I do. Thanks for all the tricks and tips in your videos Dennis they help a lot!

Thanks Mike - I started with the glove because there is more than just grease in the reel and I was concerned with bacteria, sand, and fish remains as I service charter boat reels with a lot of "fresh" stuff on them. I naturally tend to get a lot of small cuts on my hands and I wanted to protect them as much as possible, Best wishes - Dennis

Hi Dennis, Great explanations and visuals on the internals of this Ocean City reel !! The current camera distance to the reel really helps with the close-up visual orientations from my phone. Excellente !! Thanks again for all your efforts. Cons

I wonder if a man could trim off the thin part of the worn out clicker and pop rivet in a little piece of spring steel or metal to make it work?

Did you say dry grease for the drag washers? What is that?
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
I think I said to dry the grease you use on the washer. You should only have a skim coat remaining after you work the grease into the porous washers. Any excess should be wiped off. You can use fishing reel grease on the washers - Dennis

What happens when you break old parts during cleaning process? Surely you aren't responsible.
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
If there are problem parts, I normally advise the owner before I proceed and let them decide if I should go forward. If replacement parts are available, it is a lot easier decision, but on rare reels, I leave it to the owner to make that call
