Ocean COHO Fishing - 2 Days of Salmon ACTION [Astoria 2021]

Two days of salmon ocean fishing. First day is a solo trip crossing the Columbia River bar out into the Pacific Ocean outside of Astoria Oregon. Day two is a couple friends and a bunch of COHO! The bar on day 2 was 4-6' wind chop and fog. The Alumaweld Columbia once again kept us safe.

We have probably caught more Coho on a very short line right in the prop-wash, than all other rods combined. By short line, I literally mean like 5 to seven feet of line from where it enters the water. If the bait is being move around by the prop wash even better.

Just wondering how fast you troll and how long of a leader

Thanks for taking the time to watch. The speed varies depending on how much lead I’m using, direction of the current ect… But usually in the ocean I run 12-14oz lead and troll with the current and am usually around 3 to 3.5 across the ground. That usually gets the line angle I want. Leaders are 24”-30” for hardware and 40-48” for bait.

Usually around the CR Buoy. And south however I have to. I’ve had good luck between 150’ and 200’.

@John Brennan Thanks for the input. I’ve gone North a few times, but my luck has been at the CR and south. I’ll go explore the north next time out and see what I can hookup.
