Today's Pinterest Test, will test out this interesting Ocean in a Bottle Pin. This DIY Pinterest experiment is great for kids.

The shells will probably become colored from the dye, but other than that, it should be fine!

Was this on Pinterest but wanted to see if it worked before doing it myself. I feel like I did this same protect as a kid using a plastic Pepsi bottle. But now I plan on doing it in a vintage perfume bottle. Maybe add glitter and make it a "Mermaid Potion". Thanks for making this video

Omg this Ocean in a bottle thing is so easy to make and super quick. I literally just did it a minute ago. So if u want to make one just get the ingredients, which is: cooking oil (doesn't matter what kind), blue food dye, water and a empty jar!!! Super easy!!!

@neoknacks to help with the problem of the oil soaking through the cork, here is what I do. I had the same issue because corks are porous and tried to stop it however I can. After searching and looking up and experimenting, I found that liquid sculpey did the trick. Just coat the bottom, then touch up around the sides, and follow the baking instructions. (I keep an eye on it because too long will crack the sculpey.) Add some glue to the cork and put it back on and hold it for a few moments. This will keep the oil from soaking through.

I guess you could just make them yourself from black paper and give them a finish of mod podge. Or find some tiny fish and paint them black, and then give them a finish.

WOW! other people use chemicals, but you always find a greater way, and now i can use an easier method. i only have this stuff, and now i can use all of it to make an amazing creation.my mom got really happy and curious of what this was made of. i tell her how to do it, and i make some for my friends too. this is so cool! my friend's little sis ______ thought it was actually an ocean in a bottle! You could put a message inside it, laminate a piece of paper with your message for example a valentines "I love you". You can tack it down with a spot of superglue or a hot glue gun if the jar is big enough, because of the laminate on the paper it will keep it rigid, or for added support use something like a dental stick on the back side, as they are white or any other plastic. Throw in a few little plastic or rubber hearts and you're good to go.

Does the oil rot/ cause mold to grow on the cork? I know from other tutorials it's a common problem, easily fixed with nail polish either way though.

Yes but very little mold grows. Also do note that as time goes by the oil will slowly be absorbed by the cork cover until it will dry out

I tried this : I recommend to use cooking oil with a food coloring dye, dont use watercolour, it'll make the oil turn out not as clear as seen in the video.
