Friday 7th June 2024 was a day dedicated to raising awareness about the state of oceans through communicating news, research, and efforts to save our seas. Here at MASTS, every day is world ocean day as our members continue to reach new depths with their research into marine science. So in honour on World Ocean Day we would like to introduce our members and their work with our Mini Webinar series. Its Marine Science in 5 minutes.
Dr Sabine Matallana-Surget is a Association Professor in Environmental Molecular Microbiology at the University of Stirling and is currently leading a large international consortium on Plastic Pollution in South East Asia. Part of the South East Asia Plastics (SEAP) Programme, my research activities aim to characterise the functioning and activity of microbial biofilms inhabiting microplastic debris collected across Southeast Asia, using innovative tools, such as metaproteomics, in order to better understand the risk for human health, fisheries and aquaculture.
