One correction. None of them are down any money. The deal was if they won The Night Fox would pay their debt to Benedict in full. So the crew essentially kept the money they got from the Benedict job in the first movie. Well except for Rusty who is in the hole due to his hotels.

I did enjoy that movie when it came out, but I kinda felt like it wasn't quite up to what I'd anticipated, given the pedigree of the leading couple.. My girlfriend used to joke the movie didn't do that well at the box office was because, as she put it, the movie "starred Sean Connery and Katherine Zeta-Jones' ass"...😜! Still, I liked it, and as you say it's definitely a good reaction choice. Just a couple quick footnotes for TBR & S, when we see czj for the first time after the flashback at the beginning, she was at her mother's funeral, where she turned and looked towards Rusty; also I don't have the movie to reference right now, but if I recall, TNF (who's definitely IS the better thief, as far as skill and technique goes, especially working alone, but his ego, and total lack of cohorts who can really make the difference in a pinch, work against him) tells Danny & Tess that he'll "pay their debt to Benedict", which I always assumed to mean he paid their WHOLE debt, meaning they could all keep whatever they had left from the original theft... I might be wrong in that regard, but it's what I've always thought happened... Lastly, if you listen to their various conversations during the flashbacks to the Naples train station scene, you can almost piece it together; there's a lot of hidden clues in what they say... And lastly, KZJ is just freakin' GORGEOUS in this movie, IMO, and the 'Lost in Translation' scene (another GREAT movie for them to watch!) is just fantastic... Oh, and P.S., does anyone remember 'The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and her Lover'...? Disturbingly good movie, with emphasis on the disturbing...and extra emphasis on the good part, too. I feel like no one talks about that movie anymore, but it IS reaaaally good.

@@ryangreene2159 What's so holy about a "return to form"? Star Wars "returned to form" in Return of the Jedi when they blew up another Death Star, and they've been mocked for it ever since. Bernie Mac was in jail for most of the film because he was only available for a few days due to filming The Bernie Mac Show. I love all the non-verbal conversations between characters, especially Danny and Rusty. Julia Roberts married Danny Moder, a cinematographer, in 2002. Julia was pregnant while filming. The film was scheduled to be released in November 2004 when she would be 8 months pregnant as she gave birth in December. So that's why she had to have a fake baby while actually pregnant. Catherine Zeta Jone actually fell out of her chair during poker and Soderberg kept it. Tess helping made it Ocean's 12. The meet LeMarc (Albert Finney was uncredited) at George Clooney's house in Lake Como, Italy. The cast stayed at his house during filming.

Fun fact for those not familiar with Amsterdam: All of the old gable houses in the original center of the city, are built on pier posts that were driven into the sea floor, and often need to be replaced with age. If you walk along the canals, you'll notice some of them have wooden braces placed against the fronts of them, because the pier posts become weak, and the houses begin to lean! That's why they came up with the idea of raising the house, because it's actually very easy to do - if you know what you're doing.

They had to do something different with this film, to avoid being just a remake. I enjoy that they were ultimately putting one over on the Night Fox and showing that they were better was the true aim of the film. I'm sure that part of the reason that some characters weren't as involved is because their actors were only available for a limited time and they had to reduce their time on screen. It isn't that unusual, particularly if they did not have a contract past the first film since it wasn't intended to be a franchise at first.

The Night Fox told Danny that HE would pay back what they stole from Terry Benedict, if they managed to steal the egg...which they did. So the gang isn't broke, they still have all of what they didn't spend from the first movie's haul. NF is now $198 million poorer...not that he's hurting because of it. But I'd say his ego took another hit. My favorite part of this movie is Julia Roberts pretending to be herself. Sam clocked it WAY early, though she didn't know it. Neither did I, until Linus spoke about how the museum would reduce security for her because she looks like...and I thought, "No! They can't do that, that's insane!" But they did, and I love that they did. It's actually the reverse of a throwaway joke in the first movie, where a bunch of photographers are getting shots of the TV actors after their poker lesson, but Brad & George are ignored.

When it was released, this movie definitely was widely seen as a massive step down from the first film. I think it's because everyone expected your typical heist/caper film where the team is assembled, you work your way through the plan, a few hiccups along the way, but at the end the group still nabs their target. With Ocean's 12, I actually appreciated that they messed with that formula a bit, and we get to really see the group kinda have their backs against the wall every step of the way. Was it a bit too Hollywood meta for its own good? Maybe. Does it require a gigantic leap in logic? Absolutely. When you realize a good 3/4 is essentially a ruse, it does test whether or not you can accept the film/plan as a whole. But end of the day, I personally really love this movie because it's so unlike the other 2 films in the trilogy. The way it's shot with the old school truck-ins and a more saturated cinematography to go with the European flavor of the film really sets it apart. Not only that, but i just love the dialogue and banter between the characters. Considering at the time, Matt Damon was becoming somewhat of an action star with the Bourne movies, it was hilarious to see him play a character who's so hapless and confused by what's happening, despite his best efforts to assert himself as an alpha on a team. The movie really did feel like Clooney and co. just wanted to go to Europe for a paid vacation... and honestly, I didn't mind because as a viewer, I was having a great time watching lol.
