Teeming with marine wildlife, our oceans are full of fascinating stories - like that of the sperm whale, the biggest predator on earth, that lives in the Mediterranean alongside the elusive monk seal. Underwater filmmaker Thomas Behrend takes us to the habitat of the ocean sunfish with the help of a high-tech submarine camera. Part 1 - 00:00:00 Is there any truth in the legend that Sperm whales, the largest carnivores on earth, live in the depth of the Mediterranean? And what about the monk seals, one of the most endangered mammals on earth? Very little is known about the elusive seals that once populated most beaches from Greece to Spain.

WOW!!! That bit when a baby whale was born was so beautiful, how they all came together to protect the new mother as she gave birth and then chase away the cameraman as they also dealt with a new baby. I know we are not supposed to endow animals with human characteristics but wow how can we not when we see that? That was one of the most awe-inspiring bits of film I have seen in years. Thank you for such work, that was amazing.

I'll never understand not endowing animals with human characteristics as humans are also animals. They do share a LOT of emotional factors that we do. Biggest difference is morals, most animals don't have any while humans do.

That sounded so humble so very importante to give thanks for everything, no matter what it is.. I always do & Say the same things, i know that others have it so much worse than me,some don't even have food for their childrens or don't have a place to live,Many don't because of wars.. So it was so nice to see Someone write that they are thankful for something so small like a Nature docu.. I'am from Brooklyn NY, but i'am in Puerto Rico right now & i'am so thankful that i still have my mother here with me after 23 years of her flatlineing with a massive heart attack & the Lord Jesús Almighty have giving me the best gift in my life to have My mom's with me/us the family for Many more years to come.. High school used to make an annual trip to Crystal River to swim with manatees..if you were making a good grade in the Marine biology class. I was fortunate enough to get a chance to do it. I actually have a photo of myself with Bob (the marine biologist shown in this documentary)...it was 1977. I almost fell over when I saw him in this film!! Fond memories. Manatees are the gentle giants they appear to be and I hope they can survive and thrive.

Incredible! The moment when the baby whale was born was absolutely stunning. It was heartwarming to see the entire pod come together to support the new mother during the birth and then shoo away the cameraman while they welcomed the little one. While we often try not to attribute human traits to animals, it's hard not to feel that connection in such a moment. That was truly one of the most breathtaking scenes I've witnessed in a long time. The people at the Manatee hospital and anyone who helps animals, and the ecosystem, are the real people among us. If there is a Creator, which I hope, and believe there is, I also believe you are doing what He or She intended for us to do. You are the shepherds of this place, and you are the real M.V.P.'s. Just don't let that _fact_ go to your heads; stay humble, and keep on keepin' on.

Our magnificent humble most great loving creator made us, man, to be holy and love him and to love and care for all of the earth and the most wonderful creatures he made for us to care for. Its so sad that the almighty dollar drives everything. Love for Hashem and care for his creatures and eachother is what was meant to drive everything. Thats where true value lies. If only we could base value around this.

Thank you so much for this exceptionally beautiful video! I was riveted to every minute and touched by the animals' sensitivity and intelligence. I am so grateful that there are people like the ones in this video, who have special connection and caring for the animals. We all should be contributing towards saving these precious creatures and stop robbing the planet and animals of all the things they need for survival. We're supposed to work in harmony with all of creation, not be greedy and destroy so much! I pray that we still can halt the destruction of this marvelous planet and protect the creatures on it. Let more areas be designated as protected, so that those species can recover from near extinction. This is so very touching, thanks to all the special people in it and the filmmakers also. Manatees are so playful where I grew up in FL (Pasco County, I love just a county over in Tampa so continue to go there ) . They will come up as you clean your boats and play in the water if you spray the hose in their direction from the docks. They also sniff and wiggly their whiskers around . It’s sad cause people probably feed them at the sandbar so they now follow boats even more . Which ends up causing more injuries. Weeki Wachee springs and Crystal River ,Florida , areas there are places you can swim with them too . Such magnificent creatures.

I adore this video! What a wonderful documentary! I love the pictures and I love the way the filmmaker is so respectful to the animals, being so careful not to disturb them too much. Got kind of close to those whales, but what an amazing thing to see, a baby whale being born! The group is there to support the mother. I always knew that whales were very social animals and that they form close pods, this proves it. I love the pictures of the MONK seals, that baby is so adorable, had to stop the video and comment. Have much more to see. Thanks for posting this. IT is wonderful, and I am watching with a huge smile on my face! Very fun and peaceful to watch! I needed this too. God bless!

Baby seals are so cute. I had a close encounter with one when I volunteered at the Zoo here in Knoxville Tennessee. Her name was Cassie and she was lying right in front of me. She had come in from the enclosure.

20:30 must be the most amazing feeling ever and I've experienced a lot of things in life, but that is something I can't even imagine what it would be like around those whales. I swam with dolphins in the open ocean and that was truly magical, whales I feel would be something so amazing because of their immense size and gentle disposition.

Mr Thomas, My name is Mark Johnson, I am an avid follower of your documentaries as well as other ocean mammal science biologies and ographers. I recently watched a documentary about different species of whale. In one part of this documentary one of the whales was making almost the exact same sound as that seal you filmed when you were in the Mediterranean with those two different biologists, this "new puzzle" this film is titled titans of the deep filmed by a french film maker Francois something , perhaps you can look into it.

Wonderful, fascinating and very intersting, Some of the names of animals and plants could be pronounced more correctly though. I am not a native speaker of English but I do try to pronounce words in the right way. spelling is another problem, so sorry if there were mistakes, but I think its very important for names and other scientific terms to be pronounced correctly.
