Our first week into the crossing to St Helena on our journey to Grenada. Its a learning curve week for the crew getting used to the routine of watches and boat life on the ocean. We are all still getting to know each other and slotting into our roles. With no designated cook I take on the responsibility to get the ball rolling on what will be more than a month at sea...

making a dry storage cabinet where a small dehumidifier can remove all moister would be a must sailing in tropical locations. Veggies would last so much longer and all dry goods stay fresh.

Like a great ship, nothing unnecessary. Pure documentation of a true passage.

Amazing sea-kindly motion there Trev. Be interesting to see how she goes in a spot of roughers later on down the track , mate! Fair winds !

Just discovered your videos and I have watched 3 in a row...Being a sailor, a monohull instructor, catamaran crew & dreamer of owning one I really appreciate watching a series that includes things like sleeping arrangements, provisioning, meals (should post a recipe or two - conch salad, tuna marinade...), the logistics of a long sail, safety and especially the how & why of the various sail configurations (type, weather conditions). These are often overlooked or taken for granted in most shows. The barber hauler in this video was interesting...keep it up please! ⚓ How did you like the open upper helm station vs. a covered one?

Many thanks.. Must say its wasnt a problem sailing the Atlantic passage as we didnt have much rain..If you watched our stint in Panama over the rainy season, not sure it would be so nice in those conditions.. Personally loved the setup on Lyra Noa with enclosed single upper helm..

Unfortunately weve barely used the main on the trip so far so hard to comment.. Personally I think I would stick to slab but hey may change my mind later..

Looking good guys! Thanks for sharing the experience. A couple of things we are having the Nexus team do a bit different on our 526 build that we learned from sailng about our friends 526's are upsizing the winch on the foredeck to size 60 three speed , added a curved jib track, little bit larger downwind code zero, a padeye on the roof to sheet the upwind 0 to point higher, the tulip blocks are gone and they are now free floating blocks to get the sheet angle better on the downwind sails, halyard locks on all but the kite, and a bunch of other little odds and ends. That's what's so great about these cats as you can really set them up whatever way you want. Wouldn't have been possible to know unless the Balance/Nexus community was so great and gracious enough to let us hop aboard!

@@oceanadventures365 Lol, well more aiming for even better performance in light winds, but yeah, she's not going to be slow that's for sure : ). No better feeling than connecting the waves surfing at 18kts in 18-20kts of TWS in a follwing sea!

I think if you are going to have a cat dagger boards is the way to go, unless you don't care too much about speed that is. Do you know why the owner went for in boom furling over lazy jacks/sail bag? Is there a performance benefit from one to the other?
@oceanadventures365
@oceanadventures365 9 ай бұрын
Theres not as big a difference between daggers and foot keels as you think but lighter boat(smaller) and high tech sails a big plus. Boom furling just an option... I wouldnt. Electric Furler on the jib...Definitely!!
