This song always takes me back to a very harsh breakup I initiated with a girl whom I loved with all my heart; as much as I loved her we only fuelled each others addictions and from that stemmed a lot of toxicity. It was absolutely gut wrenching for me to walk away from that woman, but I knew deep down that it was a decision I had to make for the both of us to grow, mature and find happiness outside of our unhealthy addictions. The lyrics for me is signify the moment I decided to put the feelings of my heart at bay and listen to my head - 'Guess you were right, things are really looking up from here' is like my heart accepting that my head was giving me more realistic reasoning to the notion that we weren't healthy for one another. I still miss the fun times we had, and I still hold love for that girl in my heart and care for her very much. So, Erica, as much pain as I caused you by walking away and ending our romantic relationship, it's because I knew you needed a life without me in it to grow and mature into the person you are today. I miss you quite often and think about you more than I'd like to admit, and I do love you dearly, just not in the way I once did. Thanks for all the good time Bub, they will never be forgotten.

can relate to this train of discipline and consideration for someone else,done this myself on a few occassions when younger,im 55 now,all credit to you,its an unselfish and terribly tough thing to do,it changes u in good ways n bad i believe,it can harden you to the point of stone cold steel because one has proved that one can go without n still survive,personally my decisions to do as you did still haunt me at times n become so overwhelming,especially when im alone and awake @ 3am ,but one has to survive right and it wasnt as if like your situation there were addictions involved,i could just see at the time that most things dont last forever so best to cut it off now,thats very brutal thinking in a way,especially when the girl loves you

Met these cool fellas in Lethbridge AB as they were on their way to Calgary Stampede to perform. I had just lost my daughter Attalia two days prior, at 29 years of age. Nick and I chatted about the #mentalhealthmatters movement in Australia and Canada. I requested a song at Stampede in memory of Attalia. If I were to pick one song it would be this one in her memory.
