I lived there and you have residential beach houses with no night life, a few ok restaurants, and virtually no stores (all of which are premium expensive so shop for everything at Nimmo/General Booth area for all needs at normal local prices. Go to Sandbridge for quiet to escape maddening amount of Oceanfront tourist congestion but expect virtually no amenities. Frankly, you have better beaches with warmer water with excellent shopping in the Outer Banks, NC but you must pay a little more while avoiding weekend day traffic at all costs, especially in summer high season.
