My mother got breast implants in the 2000s and had to have them removed three years ago because of how sick they made her over time. She now has to live with a chronic illness for the rest of her life. She’s in pain every single day and she’s had to go through a lot to heal as much as she as. Im not saying this here to discourage anyone because I’m not against plastic surgery at all, do what you want with your body, I’m saying this to potentially raise awareness and inform women on this because doctors very often withhold information from their patients and informed consent is so so important. My mother isn’t an isolated case, millions of women all around the world suffer from breast implant illness. Ladies please make sure your decision is informed and stay safe❤

I don't think it was a doctor withholding info? They're meant to be taken out /replaced and not kept in for that long, right? Nor trying to minimise anything you're saying, I obviously don't know the full story, and I think raising awareness and making sure people know these things is important. Having said that, unless her doctor never mentioned that, this isn't so much a breast augmentation issue but rather her not being informed enough about the upkeep which isn't her fault. I hope she's doing well and that she is able to recover.

@@AelHydrangea hi! Thanks for writing that i understand what youre saying but she actually had a certain kind of implants that are made to be kept in for long. The implants themselves, no matter wha they’re made of, aren’t biologically supposed to be inside of your body. It’s an unknown body thats forced inside of you. Whether your body rejects them or not, whether you get sick or not, its still not supposed to be in there which ultimately means there’s a high chance of them intoxicating you. Whether its 5months post op or 15 years after. Again, I’m not trying to shame anyone for their choices, if you do have implants i think thats great, as long as you’re happy! Im just stating that as a scientific fact:)

Are you familiar with Dr Youn? He’s a plastic surgeon on KZbin. He looks at things pretty holistically, probably has a good video or two on risks/benefits and what to consider. He seems pretty real, not trying to sell anything

Please - just read a lot first. Talk to other women. Get a secondd and third opinion. Research a list of questions you should ask the surgeon. Make SURE they are a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon - not some other kind of doc that just does this aside from his other certifications. Ask about options, ask about issues, ask if you have thin skin. Your own breast skin will still sag down the line. Can you handle having future revisions? Not saying you shouldn't have it, just be aware that every action has a consequence (good or bad) Ask about mammograms in the future! But be your OWN advocate - no one is going to care about you more than yourself! And just as an aside, I had to have a bilateral mastectomy for cancer. Having big breasts isn't the be all end all. Being healthy is much better. Good luck to you!

I've had it done as part of transitioning gender. I think it would be difficult to compare results anecdotally. There are different surgical methods and implant types. Also, patients differ considerably, and surgical outcomes are variable. In general, though, I would say inserting an implant under the breast tissue/ chest muscle is not a great idea under ordinary circumstances. Any surgical procedure comes with risk both on the table and during recovery. Recovery is relatively easy, but for most it demands time off work so you have to factor that cost in too. There will be some measure of scarring though most surgeons are good at hiding it (or if you're like me, do you don't care much about scars anyway). You will likely need to have at least a second surgery to replace or remove the implants in the future. Some people report significant and adverse reactions to the implants (not something I've experienced, personally). You may not like the final outcome aesthetically. The implant is something you can feel in your chest (I am not sure if that is true for everyone-size and placement matter, I'm sure-but it is a possibility). After several years, I generally don't notice, but if I use the muscles in my chest, I can feel the implant there. While it's not really a big deal, all other things being equal, I'd rather not feel it. Also, there is some stigma to having implants, but then again, is it that much worse than all the ways we are regularly judged for out bodies? I am sure there are things I'm leaving out. Which is not to suggest you shouldn't do it. I'm just saying make sure you know what you hope to gain and have a solid sense that the implants will be a net positive. In my case, I went from maybe 4% of people calling me 'sir' prior to the surgery to fewer than 1% after (It almost never happens now). At the time, I really needed that, so no regrets. Aesthetically, my results are good. They look natural and feel natural to the touch. That said, I wasn't exactly small to begin with; I just wasn't proportionate with my frame in my view. What you start with will impact final outcome. Your reasons won't be my reasons, naturally. We're different people with different needs. So only you can really say if it's likely going to be worth the potential trade offs. All told, the trade offs weren't that big in my experience, but they're not nothing. Some people have had very bad results, infections, surgical complications etc. If you aren't willing to accept those possible outcomes, no matter how small, I'd say don't do it. But that's up to you of course.

Please try not to be stressed, I know it’s easier said than done! I had this procedure nearly 2 years ago now and it was honestly the best experience ever. The surgery didn’t take as long as I thought it would and then I had the excitement of unwrapping my new babies 😂 just remember that you want to do this and the practitioner does many of these surgeries every day.
