This reminds me of a small text in one of my school history books about Marie Antoinette that I've never forgotten. It describes how she wanted to change clothes and she tried doing it herself but some lady arrived and insisted on doing it herself because it was the custom for the noble ladies to dress the Queen. Then a noble lady from a higher rank arrived and by the etiquette rules she was now the one that should dress the Queen. People kept arriving and Marie stood in the room shivering while the other noble ladies kept discussing who should be the one to dress her.
