As kids our parents drug us out to hunt for rocks. About 60 years ago it was out to the Pala Mission area to find tourmalines. We found lots of trap door spiders. No tourmaline. We gave up, went back to the car to go home. I almost stepped on a piece of pale lavender sparkling stone with intense pink needles of tourmaline. We knew what we were looking for. We went home with several pink pieces and one rock with green. We didn’t dig anything. Found everything in a parking lot with no one around.

I've been blessed with finding some tiny pockets of the most beautiful Aurora druzy quartz (which mindat claims îs only found in India) here in Southern Cali...Pomona to be more specific. Would you be kind enough to share a specific location where i might be able to find myself some clear quartz? I'd be willing to share some of my tiny Aurora Druzy Quartz , although to be quite honesty my entire correction could fit into the palm of one hand as they are not only scarce, but very difficult for me to extract/retrieve from the host rock. Anyhow, i hope you have an awesome and safe remainder of the week!

I live about 30 minutes from the Oceanview Mine and I have been there several times, I always find a few nice pieces. I have also been to The Himalaya Mine in Santa Ysabel which, if you are willing to dig, can be highly productive, you do have to put your back into though, dig, dig, dig, search and dig. I have seen hot dog size full crystals being pulled from the ground. California is filled with Rock hounding locations. You can find chalcedony, jasper, fireagate, petrified wood and a lot more and even coveted Benitoite in San Benito County.
@TheCrystalCollector3 жыл бұрын

I never realized in the United States that Tourmaline,Amethyst and other semi precious stones could be found . I find crystals fascinating. Finding Jade is amazing. The only stone I knew that came from here was Sleeping Beauty. The Tourmaline is beautiful. Jewelers talk about stones coming from exotic places in Brazil; Africa and other continents. I just started watching you . Fascinating. My Grandfather when he was young probably 120 years ago at least found beautiful Amethyst in central Maine. About an hour away from Milo . He gave it to me . It was a cluster of separate Amethyst crystals. I have stored it and now I need to find it . He also had a gold rock that his cousins ( The Blue Brothers deadly horse back ride to Pikes Peak from New York I think during the gold rush . One brother made it back . It has actually been written about . A deadly journey poorly planned) my grandfather Blue was given one gold piece from that fatal journey out west . It was bad . Anyway I love what you are doing and teaching .
