Its interesting to see the relationship of all the pieces of backstage production and how in tempo they are in with the actual show and not to mention the music.

Awesomely produced video. Was about to suggest adding in a view of the LX Board Op and then she appeared just before the end! Awesome work!

Spoken like a board op !! Lol. I'm a spotlight operator and there's no spots in the show. I really love what they do very fortunate , I know you feel the same way too

Been working with timecode for so long I forgot what it was like for an SM to call light cues and not just automation and flying cues

Love it! Have been doing technical theatre for nine years semi professionally. Close to 200 shows. Love watch videos like this. Do have the whole show by any chance?

i was light board op for Rent at my school once except my sm couldnt count music, so she would call things a measure ahead or behind. most frustrating show of my life

It’s a bummer this lighting designer appears to be more concerned with how the lights look on the floor vs how they shape and sculpt the actors in their setting

thats the point of LFX though... they have a pretty good actor wash

I mean this number is an exciting opening to the show set in a Chicago club, there are supposed to be big effects. When they get to the church at the end of the number, clearly there are are more subtle lighting choices.

Hate to be the party pooper, but your lighting op has a mind of their own... triggering cues early and late and seemingly not waiting for the SM's cues but trying to learn them all by herself. Not to mention it doesn't even look like she's on comms lol
@edwah20044 жыл бұрын
Saying that, It seems that she's taking the cues at the right time and it's the DSM that's out of time with the music. Still agree that the op should only go when the cue is called tho.
@laurencenoble36293 жыл бұрын
Realistically whilst I agree that it's frustrating when your LX op goes on their own, this DSM seems to be late on almost every cue. Proper thing to do in the ops shoes would probably to have a conversation with the DSM about calling cues half a beat ahead of the music to give you time but I can see why in this case she's just taking her own cues when she knows that she knows better.
@SpiritOfTheSeasons2 жыл бұрын
Lighting op definitely on coms (you can see the band on their head and the mic in front of them) and totally saving SM's ass here. Of course technically a Lighting Op should only take it with their go's and let the blame fall on the SM, but many lighting ops know the show lighting-wise much better than the SM in amateur productions like these.

My DSM would be alittle off on cues for songs alot and i brought it up to him and he actaully told me to run the cues for the songs on my own which was intresting XD
@verycasualgamer17844 жыл бұрын
Little late on some of those cues there! I know the pain :p
@1TN110 ай бұрын
Why not just pre-record all of the light sequences and if the actors miss their marks it's their fault? 🙃

what is LX ?
@CrazyRandomDOGO5 жыл бұрын
@@jameslando1 X might be a variable x=22 for LX22 like Light Cue Number 22
@laura46032 жыл бұрын
LX is just the abbreviation of Lights. On our board/computer our light cues are numbered, so when the SM calls LX10 it means Lights, cue 10.

I think that was not helped by the compression and clipping on all of the microphones on the comms. There would be weird funk going on due to the delay of the sound from the speakers to each headset microphone etc.
