Having also done this window treatment, I would link the inner and outer skins of the panel with a layer of glass for both strength and sealing of the foam. This will allow you to fair the aperture and get a better finish and seal for the acrylic.

The paint in the cabin is clean, and cleanable. You were really thinking ahead when you located the compass such that you can open an eye during a nap and verify that you are on course. Nice work.

Thanks 👍. Yes I knew I wanted one that's easy to check from the rack and while sitting inside, then there's another hand held one that I have which will likely have 2 mounts, 1 in the doghouse and 1 on deck.

Maybe locat the two handles further forward to have better leverage to go in and out, plus if you move to the front of the boat, it gives you a broader range of holding on. Otherwise, I absolutely love your build

Did you consider using a router with depth set to cut just through the foam? If this was wood, that I how I would have approached this deadlight job. Looks like you did a great job with the oscillating saw. I probably would have started further back from the line - because I have ruined too many pieces trying to get it done on the first cut :)

Nice video! Glad you moved along with the build in the video. Not a fan of your rigging knife or the holder for it but you may learn there are much better rigging tools before you sail. We are all interested in how this tiny boat will sail and stand up to weather! Often it is the crew that fails before the ship…as you probably know….

It's NICE seeing the progress you've accomplished on your OCSS once again! Ah, I see, “your methods” of how that constructed part of your boat actually got assembled together, for “you” now in reality... Considering you happened to mention a date in the beginning of this video when this work was done, or video footage captured. I’m now curious, currently June 24th is this cabin doghouse permanently affixed to the rest of the boat hull rooftop yet, or does it still remain as a separate component perhaps? Thinking even now it is still, for best for additional work-abilty purposes and further details to be added to it or further upcoming modifications to it?

I was wondering about your rationale for the lack of a rear-facing portlight in the dog-house and the non-transparent hatch-cover. Without them, any view abaft or aloft from within the cabin requires opening the hatch... Yann Quenet's Baluchon has both a transparent rear-facing hatch and an aft-facing portlight just above the aft deck/cockpit. Other than that: congrats on 10'000!
@ocean_capable_small_sailboat
@ocean_capable_small_sailboat 3 ай бұрын
In some clips you can see that I have a round hole in the main bulkhead. It will have a hatch with a clear cover that I can remove for ventilation. It allows me to look aft while seated inside. It's just a foot lower than the doghouse. I didn't add another deadlight facing aft in the doghouse because it's so much work to add one, and because there's already that lower one. In fine weather, realistically the main hatch will likely be open for more air most of the time and I'll often be popping my head out to look around.

Hi Curtis. It's because each one is so much work to add, and there's already a hatch I can look aft through about a foot below the doghouse. I could always add one in a year or so if I feel it's really needed.

Nice progress! I wonder why some of the moving shots are really stuttery? Or am I the only one seeing this? Stutter sometimes happens when the footage isn't shot at the same framerate as the final movie - making the frames misaligned (50fps vs 60fps or 25fps vs 30fps). That doesn't make sense though, since some shots are stutter free and the very next shot is really stuttery but it seems to come from the same camera?
@ocean_capable_small_sailboat
@ocean_capable_small_sailboat 3 ай бұрын
Yes it was so annoying to edit. I got a new phone and for some reason about half the clips seemed to be at 120fps while others were 30fps. I had a lot of trouble editing. I am going back to the old phone for the next episode.

Bravo, progress is showing on the build. And just to say your vids are filtering through onto my homepage here on KZbin. I think it’s a good sign your channel has become popular and the algorithm is working for you. Actually the boat is starting to take shape and looks good. Looks stylish, some character emerging. Good workmanship throughout. Is there some area of boatbuilding you could subcontract in? Makes me wonder if there is some niche area of a build you could carve out for yourself but I don’t know much about it, just that your careful crafting of these things is resulting into a good skill level.

Thank you, I'm glad the algorithm seems to be kind to me. I've thought about it, but making money working on boats isn't really for me. I'd rather be able to enjoy it without tying it to income.
@tonysutton6559

It's too late now, but I think that I would made jigs and used a router to cut the window recesses. That way, they would have been 100% consistent for depth & shape each side and you would not have had to worry about a horrible slip with the multitool. Anyway, you did a fantastic job with your method and the green paint inside really breaks up all the white nicely. Are you using the same colour on the outside of the doghouse? One last little thing, I suspect that you might remove the ring from your knife lanyard when it rattles on the screw and gets on your nerves.
