@@animeindanger9518 It is Base 8 and can only use 1 to 7 as its representation of a number. Therefore for 767 to equal 770 as 767 has the last digit 7 that means it used up and in order for you to move one along the latter has to change to zero for the second one to become 7 leaving us with 770. For the other one it is the same principle for us to know what it will be we need to think of the order in which octal happens in, then we can see that 040 would change to 037 as 7 is the last digit before it changes to the higher value. because in 767 the the unit place is having 7 and after it it will again reset to 0 and on the ones place there is 6 so we have 7 to write after it that's why it is 770

to find the octal number comes after any octal number we can subtract 1 from a given octal number and to find next octal number we can add 1 to a given number therefore ->4(440)-1=437 and 767+1=770.

Trick : if the LS digit is 7, add 3 with the whole number for the next number and for the previous number subtract 3 from the whole number. if the LS is 0, the previous octal number will be subtraction by 3 from the whole number and the next number will be addition of 1 as usual.

Hello! I was confused aswell but i managed to get it, it's really simple! you just search the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. For example what comes after 767? the answer is 770 because you can look at the numbers and find out that 770 is the next one because 769 wont work for example because there is no 9 in the octal number system! And the answer to the other one is 437 because the number 4 3 and 7 is all numbers in the octal number system. I hope i could help you :)
