I liked your review, just wanna correct that Doro is from Nubia not Egypt. Too long the world has been sleeping on Nubia so, gotta defend even a fictional character from there.
@attention56383 жыл бұрын
Yes! You are correct, and though Nubia is now Southern Egypt, I was trying to be careful with how I worded this. And correct me if I am wrong, but Doro was descended from the pharaohs of Egypt, as the pharaohs had rule over Nubia at the time. There is a lot of great history there, and hope I am not confusing it. Thank you for the comment, and pointing that out. I should have been more clear. I will pin your comment to the top. 😊

Thanks for this video! I've been on an Octavia E. Butler kick lately! Consuming and buying what she's written! I've read Wild See, Mind of my Mind, and Clay's Ark so I had to pause this video so I can come back after finishing Patternmaster. I'm 5 minutes in and you've made me crack up twice, thanks for that!

The moral questions explored in this series sound so good! You're right that that is now what we come to expect from sci-fi, and it sounds like Butler had a strong influence on creating that expectation. I love all your little inserts in this video: the Penoptican and disciplinary societies. Love the cat mug too!

If one isn't in to science fiction, it is a difficult genre to get one interested in it. It is for sure not for everyone. I look at them as long philosophical thought experiments. I dont read as much for the story as I do to analyze a few concepts through a specific lens I put on it. Have you read Kurt Vonnegut? I think he would be a good segway into the genre.

Stupid-but-sincere question: Do we reckon that Roland Emmerich and company pinched Stargate (1994) from Ms. Butler? I mean, lots of deviation as the plot(s) progress, but the body-hoping pharaoh among assorted peoples is not *not* like the happenings of that first Stargate film.
