Today, military, economic, and geopolitical power are built on a foundation of computer chips. Until recently, America designed and built the fastest chips and maintained its lead as the #1 superpower. Now, America's edge is slipping, undermined by competitors in Taiwan, Korea, Europe, and, above all, China. In this month's People, Politics, and Prose, Chris Miller, Director of FPRI's Eurasia Program, will join Ron Granieri to explore how the semiconductor came to play a critical role in modern life, the current worldwide chip shortage, and a new front in superpower rivalry.

People, Politics, and Prose with Ron Granieri features in-depth conversations with authors of recent books on international affairs and national security. Moderated by FPRI’s Ronald J. Granieri, each session will build on the book’s contents to discuss the author’s influences and motivations, relating everything to current events to elicit a broader understanding of the geographical, political, and historical context of our contemporary world.
