Try this on a Cauliflower, nip the very to tip, I've done it several times, it has made some smaller heads on the side shots, similar to Broccoli. They just want to live. I do this when I have to many seeded starts, as I start my seeds Oct 1 as I did last week, the heat was crazy, so now I'm watering every 2 hrs. But they popped up in 4 days, carrots, parsnips might be thin.

My nemesis is birds, and squirrels which I deter with tulle. I love your calendar and growing guides. Thanks for always teaching me something new❤❤

Thanks! I'm interested to hear more about your greenstalks - they did well for you during the summer?
@ptreadway39Ай бұрын
@@GrowingInTheGardenYes my Greenstalks did well even though I wasn't here most of the summer. I have them all on my patio under partial shade and I purchased and connected them to the spring irrigation system offered by @Greenstalk. When I returned in August the swiss chard, basil, sage, and thyme were thriving and my peppers and eggplant were also doing well. Right now I have more eggplant than I need. Nothing else in my garden survived my absence and the heat. Not even the Armenian cucumbers. Oh and three other survivors in my Greenstalks were midget cantlope, sugar baby watermelon and baby bubba okra. Pretty good for being an absent summer.

Hi - I really did plant all of this when I filmed the video over a week ago (during that cool spell). Most things are growing well. The days are hot, but the nights are cooler and the days are shorter. The lower angle of the sun also helps. I may do a follow up video to show how everything I planted when it was cooler is faring after the heat wave.

I have a situation. How likely do you think I can successfully keep a new seedling alive through the winter to plant out in the garden in spring? I have a few Roselle hibiscus seeds that decided to germinate and pop up in September, they're about 5 inches tall now. I would normally just let them go but I've had a hard time with hibiscus plants so these are a little end of summer miracle. What approach would you advise?
@GrowingInTheGardenАй бұрын
If you have a large enough space and lights to grow them indoors you could try that. You could also plant a couple of them outside right now and cover them if we freeze and see how they do. Places like Arizona Worm Farm also sell Roselle starts in the spring.
