I loved Secondhand Time! I listened to the audio, which is a great way to consume her books. I also listened to the Womanly Face of War, but I think for the same reasons you were saying about the Chernobyl one (narrower topic), it wasn't quite as interesting. I also just read Carmilla for spooky month. I enjoyed it, but as you say with it being a source material for, it didn't tread new ground. But I think it holds up really well - my expectations were low, so I wasn't disappointed, lol. I've got a Sara Gallardo here I want to get to (Los galgos, los galgos) - hopefully next year! I'd only just heard of her and now it seems like her name keeps coming up! Think I'm going to skip both The Safekeep and Playground - the reviews aren't convincing me!

@@erinh7450 agreed, I can imagine Alexievich is great in audio! Carmilla was fine for me, but I can see the appeal if you go in with low expectations. And yeah, the safekeep and playground are ok, worth a shot from the library, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for them
